Personal opinion
I reckon this whole speculation and replacement theory is internet madness
It has overtaken sites such as DP Review with lunatic threads and flame wars
Whatever happened to taking Photographs and sharing them discussing them etc?
Maybe they WON'T replace the camera !

My 2 bobs worth. The replacement for the D90 will/can only be cosmetic.(D90s, D90u (u- ultiment) ). Why change something that, on paper, is better than its big brother, weight, ergonomics and sensor rankings. http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/en/...ensor-rankings This little thing has a better dynamic range than all but the big guns in the game, and they are all FF. It ranks 17th just below names and models like, Phase One P65 Plus 1, 1st. Nikon D3x, 2nd. Nikon D700, 3rd. Canon 1Ds Mk 111, 7th. Sony Alpha 900, 10th. Hasselblad H3D1150, 11th. Nikon D90, 17th. Nikon D300s, 22nd. Then add to this, today $750.00 body only. What would you change, and why? Love mine, and apart from my brother in-laws D700, I can say it's one of the best & easiest to use cameras I have come across.

Im thinking of getting a D90 as a backup/P&S type SLR, I hope it continues to drift southwards in price

Constructive Critique of my images always appreciated
Nikon have the same issue as Canon (where does the successor to the 50D fit between the 550D and the 7D?)
In Nikon land its the narrowing gap between the D5000 and the D300s.
Bottom line the entry level features are on the up and the top end APS-C (dx) sensor is suffering diminished returns on features.
Why tool up for a mid range unit in a tight market? Who needs 3 levels in this market anyway?
Actually I wasn't impressed with the Kx, I hated the fact you couldn't select the focus point manually, either the camera decides for you or you use centre point and focus-recompose every shot..
Nah!.. I already have too many chips(dents/stitches/scars/hair ) in my head apparently.... too many m/bike accidents!
What I really want, is:
D3s silicon implants for the retina, removable/interchangeable zoom lenses for the cornea bit, much better focusing screens than those dumbo gods gave us..(or is it just me?) ... Oh! and GPS connectivity(I have a plethora of GPSes not being fully utilised).
It wouldn't surprise me to see the Dn0 range totally dropped by Nikon.
They royally stuffed up the naming convention with the three camera range way back when.. Dn(Full pro) Dn00(semi pro) and Dn0.
The naming of the Dn0 range should have been switched with the Dn00 instead... makes more sense from a marketing(consumer understanding) point of view.
Whats the Dn000 range then?
Yeah but what is it....basic range??
All the bells and whistles but plasticy body?
Video and Mega pixels but not much else....
Bridge the Bridge with the 5000? Or am I off track here....
D9000.....hum sounds like a terminator...

I saw this on Digital Camera Warehouse's twitter feed this morning:
Hmmm, could it be from Nikon?dcwarehouse: Product launch today, and we've been invited and will be tweeting live! Stay tuned here from 6pm for the latest on a brand new product.
dcwarehouse: It is embargoed - brand and product not know at this stage! Spooky .
traditionally Nikon's official announcements seem to happen on or about the 20-30th of a given month.
Hopefully a few more lenses as well.
note: just had a peek at Nikon's Dn0 series release/announce dates.
D70s - Apr2005, D80 - Aug 2006, D90 - Aug 2008.
FWIW: D300 - Aug(23)2007, D300s - Jul(31)2009
ooh! and what I'm eagerly waiting on D700 - Jul 2008, D700s - LATE!!!!
I think two new (SLR)camera bodies are about to appear ... and of course some new lenses.
