I am looking to buy this lens, do you have it and if so, what do you think? Can you post a macro shot for me to look at, thanks

I have the EF 100mmf2.8L, and it`s a sweet lens,sharp and clear,makes a great portrait lens.takes a bit of getting used to,very shallow DOF,but great fun to use,heres a pic.
I`ve only had mine for a few weeks, still learning.Spider was about 10mm long.

C+C and Edits Welcome, just tell me what you did.
Canon 50D,EF-S17-85mm,EF100mm F2.8 Macro,MT-24EX Flash.
Sigma 150-500mm f5.6-6.3 DG.
Photoshop Elements 7
Fantastic shot, thanks
You didn`t say which version you are looking at,my lens is the L series f2.8 IS USM,the non L is cheaper and lacks IS,still a very good lens.
I assume you mean the old version as you haven't stated that you are interested in the 100/2.8 L. The old version is an excellent lens and extremely sharp even wide open. I tend to use it as a portrait lens wide open and it's brilliant for that, maybe too sharp for some peoples taste. The only reason it does not have the 'L' designation because the 'L' designation is not a stamp of image quality (as many seem to assume) but one of technology or components, such as aspheric elements, flourite or exotic glass used to make the lens. The old 100/2.8 macro is an excellent lens and probably better value for money now than it has ever been.

Thanks JJ, I was probably thinking of the the "older" lens as it is a bit cheaper and I was just wanting to start dabling in Macro - was going to investiage the Tamron in comparison but I am a Canon Girl. Do you use the older version, if so have you got a photograph?
Yes, I use the older version. I don't have anything on hand that I can post. I can't even remember the last time I've used it as I've become pretty hard core with my macro stuff, using enlarging lenses on view cameras instead. Long story, don't go there. If I find some pics from the 100/2.8 macro then I'll post them.
JJ
superb lens, probably the sharpest non-L bit of Canon glass you can get. Here's a shot from mine

Phew!
Wow to all the shots posted. Macro Envy now.
Ordered the 100mm non L, can't wait to get it....
It is a great lens, particularly for the money.
How do I find it? Easy, it is kept in the back left pocket of my bag
I use the lens you are talking about, have not had problem with it. Works very well for me. Have taken some fantastic shots with it. Well worth the money spent.
This has to be one of my favourite lenses too, I have the non-L version and it never lets me down.
Has yours arrived now OP?
Definitely one of my favourite lenses as well. The 100mm non IS I sold sometime ago. I was so sorry. But having acquainted myself with the L IS version now....wow. What a gem!
with my 5dmk2 and 7d this lens works a treat
