The biggest advantage of crop sensors over FF is that the effective focal length of any lens is 1.6x that of the FF camera, so for action photographers this means that they get a lot closer to the action.
Other advantages are size and weigth, cost and an inbuilt flash for emergency use.
And finally shooting speed (frames per second) is generally higher on crop sensor cameras, which can be quite useful for sports / media photography.
So the real question when deciding format is do I want lower noise at high ISO or do I want less weight, better telephoto ability and faster shooting speeds.

pretty much. some people were saying it would be scrapped due to the creation of the 7d.
The xxD series usually comes out Aug/Sept. And I saw the Canon launch night details at work today.
