Welcome to the Ausphotography “New To Photography” (NTP) book and
forum.
The purpose of this section of Ausphotography is to nurture and provide assistance to those members
who are just starting out in the wonderful world of the camera and photography. It is here to give you
a basic understanding of the features of your camera, and how to use those features to creatively
improve your photography.
Do not try to learn everything at once. Learn a new skill, practice it, then when you understand it,
move onto the next one. Doing this will mean ultimately you learn faster.
This book is organised so that you can understand the main controls you have over the photo that
your camera is capable of producing.
These chapters are listed in this book, where you can find out some jargon free,
basic information about your camera and the settings available to you
Some threads, will be started by the Site Administrator, or moderators, and these will be designed to
encourage interaction and learning about specific aspects of photography.
New To Photography members are invited to create their own threads in this section also about any
aspect of photography they do not understand. Note that if the question is to technical,
please post to the general site, as it is probably not suitable for the New To Photography forum.
There will be occasional Challenges for those members who are New To Photography,
these will require you to use at least one specific manual setting on your camera,
to help you gain further understanding of that feature.
We really encourage you to participate in the whole Ausphotography site and not just the New To Photography forum.
The more you participate, the more you will learn. When you look at member photos on the site,
remember that every one of us had to start at the beginning and learn the skills required to produce the photos you see.
The New To Photography forum is NOT for placing your photos for critique.
Please place all your photos for critique in the Member Photos section of the site.
You can just peruse the various Learning Centre articles or you can follow a simple structured
learning plan that,
if followed over 2-4 months, will take your from complete novice through to being a quite accomplished photographer.
