View Full Version : odd 60D focus/view finder issue

now I did a quick search, but really wasn't to sure what key words to use so it came out flat.
None the less this is the issue I'm having.

When I use auto focus and focus in on a subject the AF point will light up red, looking through the view finder the image appears far from "in-focus" however when I take the photo and look back at it on my camera or the computer it is in fact in focus like the AF point suggested.

Whilst using MF and focusing something which to my eye looks correctly focused, after taking the image and looking back at it, it's in fact out of focus.

I printed of some focus charts to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me, and yep AF works great, but just appears "off" through the view finder.

Tested this using 3 lenses, 18-55mm, 50mm and tamron 90mm

any help much appreciated, and quickly since I'm going into the city to inspect and potentially buy a 24-105 tomorrow and really do want to test the focus on that properly :)

Adjust the camera's diopter correction wheel, usually at top right of the viewfinder. Sometimes you bump the wheel and everything looks bad. that's what you have at the moment, by the sound of things. Just autofocs on something, then adjust the diopter until it looks good.

Wow I feel like a complete idiot.

That was the first thing that came to mind for me, but the info in the viewfinder was all sharp, Shutter exposure etc. so disregarded that as being the problem.

once again really do feel rather stupid.
a deletion of this thread should take place.

So the focus was 'out' but the info in the vf was sharp!?

If you adjust the dipotre, doesn't the adjustment affect both parts of the vf?

^ exactly! There may be more to this than meets the eye

That was my impression that the info was sharp but VF not.

I can confirm that the VF definitely was out of focus but not sure how badly the info was out.
From the looks of things everything is A-OKAY

will get a chance to shoot properly out of the house soon enough and will find out for sure if there is any issue, but like I said looks good.

Thanks once again guys :)
