I have had this same problem befor but not to this extent, I cannot save to jpg, it will only let me save in TIFF and other things i have no idea about, The last time i had this problem it was pointed out to me that photoshop didnt save jpeg if the photo was 16bit and to change it to 8bit, well this time around even thats not working the only way i can save as a jpeg is to save for web/device but then this stripps the meta data which i need still attached... I am in need of urgent help as i Need to send these photos of to be printed for my assignment.. TIA

Does the image contain layers? If so, flatten these.

Yep, flatten all layers, make sure it is 8-bit and it should work

how big is the photo? JPG is designed for smaller versions, so if it is say 7000 pixels wide and 150MB, you may be reaching the boundaries of what JPG can do. I know with my version of PS, it would sometimes give me a warning that the file was to big.

There are two ways to create a JPEG, save as and save for web and other devices - you tried both ?

Save for web allows me too... but strips camera data which i need intact
save as wont

Also, have a look @ Image-Mode. Check that it's not Indexed Color, Lab Color, or Multichannel.
(Yeah, I 4-got 2 mention this b-4. But then how about a description of your process, or we could be guessin' till...)

open Raw in Canon digital photo professional - transfer to ps CS3 - convert to working profile (rgb) - change for 16bit to 8 bit -Make Layer - free transform - crop - flatten image - Save as.... well thats the gist of it i dont actually save as i need to save Jpeg

When u open it in DPP what do you do to the file just before transferring it to CS3. Is it still a raw file then? I guess CS3 is reading the CRF and you're still working on the CRF right up till Save As.. time??

If this is the case, tick the box which says "As a Copy". You will then have all available formats in your Format option.

Oh and to answer you question to the DPP. normally I dont do anything i just use the DPP to see if its the raw file i want.
