I went to a bereavement session last month and I tried to use my 50mm 1.8 on my canon 40d but it wouldnt focus or move at all. I was so glad that I remembered to put in my other lens on my way out at 12am. Is there anything that I can do or check to see if this lens is no good anymore? I really love this lens and I if its no good Im will need to buy another one ASAP.

Try it on another Camera, If it does'nt work , Get a new one , Not worth fixing at the low cost new

Clean the contacts o nthe back of the lens and see if that helps.

Otherwise, buy yourself the 1.4 version next time.
It's better built than the 1.8

yep clean contacts and try on another camera. Sounds like the auto focus ? I presume you can still manual focus ? any error messages on your cameras LCD ?

Yep that's the one downside with these little lenses, when they die they aren't heavy enough to become a paper weight. Sounds like a new ones in order. $99 , cheaper than used on eBay !
