HI All

I plan to do a sunrise from somewhere:confused013 in the city. Not sure of correct locations but found a few:

Bartleys lookout - For a Sunrise?
Wilson Lookout - Not sure if I can get a Sunrise from here...

Can I please get some suggestions on this and if anyone's interested to join as well?

if you wanted the sunrise you'd want to be on the other side of the city looking back towards kangaroo point.. that's if you wanted the buildings in the foreground.

Thats right the sun rises from behind Wilsons Lookout sunsets are better from here I posted some shots reciently.

Mt Coo-tha is not a bad idea but there will be a lot of haze from the city pollution can carry a poloriser but against the direct sun the effect will be close to nill. Pre dawn shots maybe nice but you will need a zoom to focus on some of the buildings else I think the wide angel shots look a bit flat.......

Even from Kangaroo Point or Wilsons lookout the buildings will look nice with the morning sun on them.
I will keep an eye on this to see where you will go. I might join you.

Than guys - I have been to Mt Cootha plenty of times so would like the city this time. If Wilson Lookout is better for sunsets we can probably go to Bartley's lookout. It appears this is a good spot to get the city skyline, hamilton and the bridge as well. The trouble is I am not exactly sure where this place is - any help?

Bartley's hill reserve I presume is what they talk about above Albion park. I have never been there but try Blair street on google maps

I have been there before cannot give exact directions but you will need to be on kingsford smith drive and get into Ascott and drive up the hill. The area is not very large so you can miss it easily.

City is a bit of a distance away, but that location could work.

In regards to Mt Cootha and pollution - if there's some decent wind (not likely) during the night, the morning should be crisp and clear.

Another idea is somewhere along the BNE river near Pauls Milk. Low shot, wide angle as the sun breaks on the buildings should provide some epic lighting. Same would work on sunsets too. I might try that this weekend.

You will only get a sunrise from Bartleys Lookout if you take it down then the street (I have done this before ages ago, and you will get the gateway in it, there is a photo somewhere in my flickr account of it) ....for Sunrise, you would be better going down to Kingsford Smith Drive at Hamilton, you can then get sunrise over the gateway, and facing the otherway, get the early morning light on the CBD buildings.

This is near where I live, and the area I go on my morning walks.

River terrace is another option. I took one from there for my 365 last year

Bartley's Hill Reserve is in Blair Street. I went there for the fireworks this year and it is a fair way from the city, plus it was crowded that night so was a fizzle for me. But that said, it is an ideal spot I think for a sunrise and doubt that you would have to battle any crowds LOL. I might just join you as it is not far from me. One thing, they have demolished the building at the top of the hill and when we went there for the fireworks there were barriers blocking the street from the east, so you may need to google it and enter from the west end. The place is only a few blocks from Sandgate Road at Clayfield. Hope to see you there :)

Hmmm too many choices...

What's the vote?

Bartleys
Kingsford Smith Drive at Hamilton (David we need the exact meeting point if you can)
River Terrace

I am looking for a sunrise so Kinsford Smith Drive could work better if we can see the sun from there?

Let's finalise the spot in the next 2 or 3 days.

Ok since there has not been any movement on this I'd like to vote for Kingsford Smith Drive at Hamilton.

David can you please provide an exact location where all meet?

Sunrise is at 5:34 so I'll to be there by 4:45 AM

The sun is in the wrong place at the moment for sunrise from Kingsford Smith Drive (Albion end) if you are wanting the sun to be around the Gateway Bridge

OK in that case we will stick to the original plan of Bartleys
