Beauty and the Beast... and a large dollop of frustration...

Well, it's my birthday coming up in a couple of weeks and I have bought myself my wife has bought me a couple of new lenses... very excited about them both, but I can't recall seeing a greater beauty/beast comparison! The 85mm f/1.2L is just a gorgeous chunk of glass whilst the TSE 17mm is a veritable Frankenstein... :D

The frustration comes from my wife's rather too literal interpretation of "birthday present". Two weeks to go and she's allowed me only a quick play to check they're working before packing them away :( Feel like a little boy who's getting a new bike for his birthday, has been allowed a 30 sec ride around the yard, but has now had the bike taken off him for a fortnight...

Classic case of Birthdayitis Interruptus - 'bout as frustrating as the other kind! :D

the 85L, such a desireable piece of glass.
I'd also love to own a ts lens in the future. The 17 certainly has a good reputation :D

Agree entirely, James. Whilst the cost involved had me feeling dizzy as I made the purchase, I figure I'll keep both lenses pretty much forever. Ditto my MPE-65mm. The other lenses in my bag aren't quite safe yet!!

As it happens, the first time I became aware of the TSE-17mm's existence was when you posted some pictures on AP that you'd taken with it when it first came out - thanks for that mate!

Sweet. For some reason I thought the 85 would look bigger. LOL I am too used to zooms it seems :p

:D

The 85L is pretty chunky - 1.025kg. By comparison, 70-200 f/4 is 0.705kg and a 100-400 is 1.380kg...

Wow,
I'd say you have a beautiful wife to be buying you birthday presents like that! Very jealous!!:D

Managed just a couple of "test" frames before my darling wife packed the lenses away...

Poor light and all coming from behind my 4yo boy; really it's just a happy snap, but it's all I've got for the moment...

Handheld, f/1.2, 1/50, ISO400. The lights dimmed and flickered as I took off the lens cap and the 85L sucked the light out of the room, ha ha :D

Yes, she is very special. However, she'll be expecting a pretty equitable return come her own birthday!
