Hello.

I have on loan a Manfrotto 676B monopod,I have not used it a great deal,it feels light, and I always have to bend down to use it.

Today,I briefly used a Manfrotto 681B,it certainly felt 'more'! it was a bit taller,I felt more comfortable using it,and felt if I owned one it would get much more use than the smaller one I have on loan.

Has anyone here used the 681B regularly and what area of use?.Also is it possible to put a ball head on these monopods?I have a manfrotto ball head but it has a 3/8 thread and I notice these monopods have the smaller attachment screw.

Thanks for any info and thoughts, mainly looking at using this 681B monopod for use when using my 70-200 L f 2.8.

Cheers FB

I use a 680B monopod, with a 486RC2 ball head, love it, it is long enough that I don't have to have it fully extended

Thanks @MarkChap,I have 484RC2 head, how do you attach it to the monopod,as it seems to only have the smaller attachment point.

I have a 680B, which I tend to use only with my 300/2.8 (although I mostly hand-hold that).

The height is fine as is, but it can certainly accommodate a head.

I think that's the combo I have: I'm abput 6'2" and it's tall enough for me :)

I think the 680B has a reversable screw and if you take it out and screw it in the other way your problems will be solved.

Yep 681b has the reversible thread for either 1/4" or 3/8"

The 3/8" thread surrounds the smaller thread, and retracts into the assembly to expose the 1/4" thread when mounting a camera or lens using the 1/4" socket.

Correct

great, thanks everyone, sounds like a monopod a good couple of notches above the one I have on loan.

Sounds like I'd use it more for birding and regular use.

I have it, but I don't use a Manfrotto head, I use a RRS head. I use it standing with more leg to spare, and it supports my hefty D3+400/2.8 and TC's no problem at all.
