this error come up acouple of days ago and i understand it is a problem with the shutter
i turned it on and off and was ok again
i believe it is common for the shutter problem on 50d canon
should i send this in to get looked at now or wait until it happens again in case it was just a hiccup
cheers macca

Guess it depends how much you use your camera Macca, if you’re using it on a semi to pro basis and it fails during a job it will be $$$ lost (Unless you have a backup)

If you only use it occasionally maybe wait and see if it happens again, if it does then send it in?

Just my 2 cents worth ;)

i use it every day
i have to do two one hour walks a day and its the only thing that keeps me sane apart from the wife
theres still 10 weeks of warranty left
i also do the car club shoots and sell the discs of the meeets to the drivers for my lens fund
i might wait a couple of weeks and see how it goes

with only 10 weeks left on the warranty. I would get it serviced sooner rather than later. Cause it might be OK, but it might die completely at any time, if the shutter mechanism is failing. How many shots has the camera taken in its life? The 50D shutter has a 100,000 actuations life

Model - Rated Shutter Life
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS / 1000D - 100,000
Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i / 500D - 100,000

No don't wait. Send it in now under warranty. Better to be safe than sorry. If they check it and say that it is OK, and then down the track the problem re-occurs then it should fall back into warranty status. Best of luck.

With only 10 weeks to go, I'd be sending it back NOW. Better to be safe than sorry!!

No harm in sending it back for free.

Get it checked b4 it costs you
