Hi all,
I'm in the market for a compact/pocket camera around approx. $500. I have a Canon DSLR and this one will be used also by my wife, but I also want good flexibility and control. Can anyone recommend a few good ones for me to look at? I did find the Panasonix LX5 which I thought was great, but it has a lens cap instead of the standard sliding cover, which will be annoying for the type of use it will get by the range of users. I'm hoping someone can help???

Cheers

Probably the top compact camera within your price range (a little over) is the Olympus XZ-1.

It will have a separate lens cap too but that is the price you will pay for a fast zoom lens which will help with low light photography and giving limited depth of field (when required).

Hi dleesteere.
I think you are asking too general a question. You will end up with a thousand replies like you did for your printer query. Please specify some of the uses you (plural, of course) are thinking about.

I have the xz-1 & really like it, I had an old Olympus 1.7tc to extend the range out to 200mm. I have just bought the macro light for it ( to shoot fungi)

or if you want to shoot RAW, check out the Canon S95 or Lumix DMC-LX5
