As the title suggests, I own a Manfrotto 701HDV head (as pictured) attached to 190CXPRO3 legs.

I want to remove the head, but its stuck.
I have removed the 3 set screws from underneath the head.
There is nothing to grab hold of to stop the head from just panning, i can lock the pan, but its not strong enough for the amount of force thats needed, it just still pans.

In the picture notice how narrow the silver base part is, you cant grab it, cant even fit a strap wrench around it.

any suggestions?

Might be worth putting it in the fridge for a while, the aluminium and steel threaded stud will contract at different rates, that may allow it to loosen up enough to unscrew.

thanks for the tip phil. ill keep it in mind for next time.

i soaked the join in wd40 for a day and it came off with a bit of muscle this morning.
stupid design flaw, in that there is nothing to grip onto to get it off. too bad if you ever want to remove the head in the field in a hurry.

always helps to have a little lubricant put on to it before attaching so it helps with removal at a later date.

I was going to say god was telling you it's time to get a new tripod, but whoops too late :confused013

my heads don't get stuck, they have flat bottoms. Did that one have grooves that molded into the base?
