Hi,

I have a family 50th bday party coming up in 2 weeks and have been requested to capture a few shots. I have a EF 24-70 which I am planning on using for most of the time but also have a EFS 10-22.

Do you think I should go for a prime instead? Something like the 50mm f1.4 or is there any other Prime lens you would recommend?

The party is to be held at home hence was thinking I need something wider than the 50mm

Thanks in advance.

Looks like 24-70 to me. I reckon the 10-22 might be too wide and may actually distort / not take flattering photos of people?? 50mm maybe too limiting but would be good for low light shots without flash? Best thing is to do a practice shoot around home on your family to try them all first.

You do have a slr and know how to change the lens right ? What's the big deal - take em all

I would use the 24-70 because the 10-22 will only give you the top half of the range usable without distorting peoples features

thanks for the info folks. looks like the 24-70 will be the one I stick to.

Darren: i do know how to change lenses, but I dont want to keep changing lenses and miss any moments.

24-70 for me everytime with a good flash!

I'd take the 24-70 and the 10-22 as well. I doubt you will miss too many photo opps due to lens changes :D

Unless you know what the light and place is like any preconceived idea and limiting yourself to that would be unprofessional

I would use an EF 16-35mm f2.8L when in that particular situation, on a 1.6x cropped sensor it would come out as 25.6mm-56mm which I like to use at parties and cocktails.
