New Len's Suggestions

Hi Guys

I'm just getting ready for summer im planning a pretty big part of my time to photography so I'm looking at getting a couple of new len's.

I have a Canon EOS 550d with standard twin lens kits this summer I am looking at taking pics of mainly the following:

Beach, Sand, Sunsets, Sunrises, water, waterfalls

Buildings, Long Exposure shots at night

Landscape shots like up in the bush of rivers, creeks, views

I know this is alot but does anyone recommend a lens or two for this looking at spending around $1000-$1500 no more as I am only pretty new to photography

Sounds like a Widey is what you need !, the Sigma 10-20 or for a few more $'s The Canon 10-22, For most of the photography that you listed :)

Yep, I would be suggesting either the Sigma 10-20 or the Canon 10-22

The sigma is quite a bit cheaper and has a very good reputation

Oh !! BTW If your going for that style of Photography , You will need to get a 77mm Filter Ring, Filter Holder and a couple of ND Grad Filters to hold back the Sky a little :)

Reckon the F3.5 is worth having ?

Mrs Mongo has the 10-20 Sigma and Mongo has used it also. It is probably the slower of the 2 versions you have found. It is a good lens.

The cost difference between the 2 is not great. However, can Mongo say this to you – unless you are using it for photo journalism, there is no point in getting a faster wide angle for landscapes ! Landscapes do not move (except for ocean based ones) and they are not going anywhere in a hurry. Moreover, if you buy a faster version you will only end up shooting at F11 or thereabouts anyway. So why would you buy the faster wide angle ??

The only reason Mongo would ever buy a faster version is if it were sharper or more optically superior to the slower version.

the wide lenses are good for inside to
inside = darker ( sometimes )
so maybe the faster is worth the extra ???

i am looking for a 10-20 or 10-22 also and was thinking the one that handles low light might be the deciding facture

Please correct me if you disagree - still a lot to learn :)
