Hi folks,
I am looking at buying a Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L lens. Everyone is selling around the $AUD1600-$1900 mark and I came across this website for $USD599: http://www.zol-japanese.com/goods.php?id=2616

Has anyone purchased from them or know anything about their reputation? Is this too good or too cheap to be true?

Thanks.

I smell a raught... remember the principal... if it is too good to be true, then it probably is!

Its up to you. However, if you're comfortable with the risk then go for it

bit strange - the 35mm shows a picture of a 24mm. They are also advertising a 200mm 1.8 which has not be made for 5+ years.

If it works for you let me know - I am a follower not a pioneer.

Thanks guys, I did think it looked too good. On their payment options, they do accept Paypal but nevertheless, unless someone here has purchased from them without a problem, I will pass. My wife is heading to Japan shortly so I will get her to check out the price in store over there...less than $AUD1500 would be a buy for me. 8)

Cheers.

Can I suggest you also consider the possibility of a Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/2? I just bought one from DigitalRev on ebay, waiting for it to arrive. Arguably similar image quality, costs around $1200.

Hi Jimbo,
Thanks for that. I had a quick look at this Zeiss but should read more reviews on it. Please let me know how it goes for you when you receive it. Thanks, Quang.

Thanks David, there's no doubt that site is a scam. Glad I ask forum members to confirm my suspicion.

Sure thing. In fact, a guy on POTN that I've been in contact (Denoir) with reckons that it outperforms the 35L.

Be aware though - Zeiss primes are manual focus only. This may be a deal breaker for your purposes.

In the meantime, have a look in this thread on POTN (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=775856), particularly photos by snowboarder and Denoir.

I'll let you know how I find it, when it arrives. I hate waiting for mail orders, it's the worst part of getting new toys

what currency is that site even in... no one sells a new d90 for $250ish! even grey imports are $800 plus postage!
