I get a newsletter from the MWB people, and sometimes they have interesting stories about scams.

The first 3 stories in the link below are the latest:

I recently received one of the Nigerian inheritance scams. They haven't been around for years it seems. Every day around lunchtime the Visa and Mastercard Department calls me (not sure why as I never bother to listen to the full message.)

The only ones I think are believable are those emails from gorgeous young women who are really keen to make my acquaintance. What's not to believe? :D

One going around that almost got me till I realised not all it seemed to be. Some one rings up saying they’re from NBN. Will offer you a free upgrade and a months credit. Checked the NBN site which clarified this by saying”at no time would they contact you by phone offering free upgrades etc”.

Today I got a call (which I could tell was from a scam number) and after a few seconds of silence
I just gave a sort of a grunt into the phone. Someone then said "Hello" and I hung up. Too bad if
it was a legit call, but I seriously doubt it :p

If I get very curious as to who rang I use the #69 function on my 'phone, or I have been known to use the "reverse number lookup" on the 'net. It's not all that useful, but it sometimes reveals who called.

i regularly get calls from, I'm assuming by the accent, the sub-continent saying either that my internet is not working, my computer is not working and they need access to fix it, or my telstra connection is not working properly.
At the times they call i am usually using the computer. So i tell them i will do a speed test, or some other check, and they promptly lose interest, and i hang up.
