Well, I will say I'm stamped, because I am :o-ed to say I haven't been able to solve this.
(OK, stumped!)

I'm setting up an old laptop for someone and its Win 10 install is only at Build 17134, even after a
few updates in the past days. The latest I have on my own is Build 18362.

Is there a way to [bypass waiting for intermittent updates and] go straight to the latest build?

Ta a lot.

Not by using the 'updates' feature. Not sure if you could find a downloadable copy of the most recent and install it from a file. However watch out for reliable sources. Remember when you used to be able to download the update and distribute it across a heap of computers (when the interwebs was slower and monthly limits were lower). Note sure if M$ offers anything like that now.

Not by using the 'updates' feature...

I was afraid this might have been the case, after not being able to see a "how".:(

Update...

Today that computer began to do an update on shut-down.

I thought, H:party7::party7:ray at last!

Alas! When I checked it said that the update - the fabled 1903 - failed.
I checked the error message, got confused about the plethora of possible causes, tried to re-do it
with the same result, and then gave up and shut-up er, down.

Lo and behold! I just switched on, checked update status and found that it is
"...Installing - 18%..." as we read/write. I have :confused013 idea how come it suddenly took off again, and
I hope it completes successfully

Yeah, I remember when trying to update to 1709, I had troubles.
Took a few shots.

Something to do with hardware attached and .. god knows what.

On the whole, I like Windoze .. but sometimes it is infuriating with niggly issues like this.

...About 2-and-a-bit hours later I got the Win Features "welcome" screen
I feel better about handing over to the new owner today
