Best value filter for tamron g2 70-200 (77m) - variable or not?

I love the idea of a variable filter, but I am a novice in this area.

I love long exposure shots, but there is often too much light. So what would you suggest as a best value/most convenient option(s) please?

When I first started I used a variable 10stop but now I use Nisi filters.

I recommend having a 10, 13 and a 16 stop ND filter set. This will cover everything you could possibly want to do with an ND filter. A 16 stop ND filter will get you exposure times of around the five minute mark, so you get that beautiful cloud movement. A ten stop ND filter won't slow the shutter down long enough for the cloud movement, but is good to use at the beach, to smooth out the water substantially.

The only brand I recommend is Formatt-Hitech, especially their Firecrest range. It has no colour cast to it. They are very soon about to release their new iterations of the Firecrest series, and are having a 25% off sale (http://www.formatt-hitech.com/promotions/) of the remaining stocks that they have, so this is a good time to grab a bargain from them.
