Guys. Just a quick quiz - my searches are proving fruitless.

Can someone pls remind me of what version of Internet Explorer you need to run
the latest Skype?

I am also still searching, but...

Ta.

I would be very leery of running anything Internet connected on Vista. A trusted web browser (such as Firefox) with Flash disabled, maybe. Anything else, you are just a thrillseeker. Certainly do not user that machine for your pictures, or your banking.

Guys Guys! May I hasten to assure you that it is not for me:angry34:
that I'm asking but "for a friend" whom I have told many times to
move away from there!

However, unlike Jed Clambett, he stays put on Vista:eek:

Well now it is not working, so I'm here to help:confused013

OTOH, he does have a laptop (that was tucked away in a cupboard) that
runs Win 10. I told him to start that up in the meantime.

Yes sir?

Ahem .... Er .... I want some of those ... you know ... those things. It's not for me! No, no, it's for a friend. Really. Well, sort of an acquaintance actually. Certainly not for me.

Right you are sir.

Am, I support a mate's Vista PC with Skype. You need to download a specific version of Skype, then disable Skype auto updates. I can't remember the version of Skype you need without going around to my mate's place.

The Skype auto update registry key is:
95028000-A6DE-493B-B253-9E18B19610A2

from memory ...

Change the value from 0 to 1, or vice versa.

Ta, JK. But, how horrible!!

I will insist he spend the $100 odd for Win 10.
At the time that Win 10 was free I told him, thinking he had Win 7.

Again today I told him that I was sure Vista was no longer supported,
but he didn't seem to worry:confused013

If he puts Win 7 on it is still possible for people with "accessibility" issues to get a free upgrade to 10.
It's just a simple download available to all........who have accessibility issues.

Some months back we finally had to get a new laptop and thus upgraded from a dying vista to a new 10. The biggest problem I've found with this is my better half.:(
"How do I save this email to documents like I used to."
"Shit, how do I open this?"
"Why can't things used to be like they were before."
And it goes on.
Seems if it can't be learned or done in 5 seconds, well it doesn't work anymore.:(

Anyway, what's Skype??

Mark, you need Classic Shell http://www.classicshell.net/

Enhances the lack-lustre Windows 7.
Rescues the brain-dead Windows 8.
Breathes new life into the feebly twitching Windows 10 UI.

One of life's little essentials. I'd rather go without socks than go without Classic Shell.

Fairly obvious i thought... it's what happens when you need to go to the toilet on a aeroplane. :D

I agree, Tony.

I always gave clients the choice, and they always chose to use Classic Shell ...
