View Full Version : What is this stuff worth?

I'm reviewing my motely collection of camera gear with a view to updating some things to new models, and getting rid of other things I don't use much. I can get a rough idea of what new stuff costs easily enough, but in many cases I have no idea of what the old things are likely to bring in. For example, I know that a new Canon 35mm f/1.4L II is about $2500, but I don't know what my 35mm f/1.4L (the recently discontinued previous model) would likely sell for, meaning that I have no idea what it would actually cost me to swap them over. * So perhaps members who know more about these things that I do would be kind enough to say what they estimate the following items might bring in. (No need to answer for every one, of course. Just the ones you know something about.)

Lenses:
Canon 35mm f/1.4L
Canon 100-400mm (This is the old 100-400, now replaced by the twist zoom 100-400 f/4.6-5.6L IS II.)
Canon 24mm TS-E f/3.5L tilt-shift lens (Note: this is the original, now replaced by the f/3.5L II)
Canon 500mm f/4L IS. (Note: this is the second Canon 500/4, the first with IS, which was itself replaced a little while ago by the f/4L IS II.)
Canon EF 1.4X II 1.4 extender (There is now a III.)

Other items:
Canon 580EX flash
Canon MT-24EX Macro twin lite flash
Canon 5D II camera (Refer to my glowing testamonial in a recent thread!)
Canon 50D camera

Thanks team!

* I choose this example because I'm not really interested in upgrading that particular lens, and I don't want to transgress the site rules about offering things for sale outside the proper place in the proper way. Please note that I am not offering these things for sale at this time. I may or may not offer one or more of them later, when I've worked out what I want to do. If so, I'll start a thread in the proper place.

Follow a few identical ones on evilbay and you will be notified when the bidding ends and what it went for. Might give an idea.

Let me have a stab at this for you but as with everything there is a price and then there is a fire sale - it all depends on how keen you are to move the item.

Lenses:
Canon 35mm f/1.4L ($900, in competition with Sigma 35mm)
Canon 100-400mm (This is the old 100-400, now replaced by the twist zoom 100-400 f/4.6-5.6L IS II.) ($900)
Canon 24mm TS-E f/3.5L tilt-shift lens (Note: this is the original, now replaced by the f/3.5L II) (<$1000)
Canon 500mm f/4L IS. (Note: this is the second Canon 500/4, the first with IS, which was itself replaced a little while ago by the f/4L IS II.) - ($4000 - $5000, hard to move because so expensive)
Canon EF 1.4X II 1.4 extender (There is now a III.) ($200 - $250)

Other items:
Canon 580EX flash ($250)
Canon MT-24EX Macro twin lite flash (?, still selling on ebay for $950 new, so $600 second hand would move it)
Canon 5D II camera (Refer to my glowing testimonial in a recent thread!) - (<$1000, most likely around $850)
Canon 50D camera - (<$400, mostly likely around $300)

A note to be made aware of too.
Even tho those prices that Brian listed cold be close or accurate, they could be higher due to demand from overseas.
As our AUD is now so devalued compared to the USD, it could be advantageous to list them to potential overseas interests too.

Obviously the usual caveats apply if you do so, such as no shipping to Nigeria .. and so on :p

But if you could achieve a 10-20% premium from an overseas buyer and sell enough stuff ... that could be a fairly major winfall by the time they're all gone too.
