It's a bit nerve wracking the first time someone asks you to go and take a photo of a specific place, and you have to go out and find the right composition in the right weather conditions at the right time of day, to capture the mood of the place. Especially when there's a deadline! But in the end I was quite happy with how this one came out, and the client was really happy too so I'd call it a win-win.

Thanks all for the encouragement! It certainly was a good learning experience - I can already see things I will do differently next time in terms of client liaison etc, but the client is stoked with the result so that's all that really matters!

Well done John and like any service industry you've hit the nail on the head knowing if the client is happy that's all that matters.

May I ask why the client asked you to do the work? You must have got his trust that you could do a good job.

Well.. why they wanted it was for their daughter's birthday present. Why they asked me to provide it, well they told me they had gone to a local photo gallery at first, but found their photos a bit cliche and lifeless (wide angle pastel sunrise over the beach type thing). So a friend got them onto my website and they liked my style and thought I would be able to capture the mood of the place, so sent me an email and got the ball rolling.

So, a combination of personal reference and your website. Well done. May there be many more.

Good job...!

I'd love to sell one of my photos, only just started thinking about doing it for money. I've been a hobbiest until now.
