For me, most interesting was his response to breaking the rules.

Thanks for the link, Rick. Eugene Smith was one of the truly greats from that era and his candour and biting wit in this interview is refreshing. Nostalgia probably colours my view of that great B&W era of photo journalism, but I really don't see its equal today. The ubiquity of camera phones and the downturn in newspaper sales has seen the sacking of hundreds of photographers from our once great Aussie newspapers, so we will never see photo essays like that again.

He does sound like a wit and definitely passionate about his craft. An interesting read.
