if you want to watch an amazing documentary, that has photography and the life of an unknown and interesting photographer at its centre, then you must watch Finding Vivian Maier. I saw it this afternoon and was blown away by her photography, but also the way she kept her photos secret from the world.

Interesting! A quiet achievement.

Photography for photography's sake? Photography for the photographers enjoyment?
Photography for my own sake. Do I need to share what I like?
Documenting for others, later?
I'd like to see more than the trailer. Will try.

I went to see it about two weeks ago. We had already had a camera club presentation on her, so I didn't go cold. I thought it was a very good movie that canvassed her art and life, as well as putting to bed some of the criticisms of John Maloof for publicly exhibiting her work when 'she clearly didn't want it shown' The movie reviewers have been giving this a well deserved 5 stars. Highly recommended.

It's a wonderful film. The stunning thing for me were her proof sheets - 12 x 6 x 6cm shots on each roll and for most of the opens they showed there'd be 10 or 11 keepers, most of them outstanding. She had a marvellous 'eye'.

You might be able to find it in iView. You can then watch it anytime in the next 7 days, once it has been to air tonight.
