Yesterday the magazine and remote release for the Blad 553ELX arrived. I held off buying a magazine as I hummed and hahed between a polaroid or ordinary back ,and watched the shops, auctions etc. I finally got an A16S magazine. And I think I have an old roll of film bought for the TLR somewhere, it's just for a test run so age won't matter.

Odille... Congratulations on the 1000 post to this thread! :efelant:

People show off their new babies don't they? :D

It is handy to see what gear people are getting/ have gotten, especially if you are interested in it yourself, you can then ask them how they are finding it and get some real world feedback.
Not to mention, finding out about products you might not have seen before.

Also gives you something to do while you are waiting for the batteries to charge. ;)

New car? New house? New baby? New 'puter?

We all like to share our new toys - its one of the fun social aspects of life and the site - sharing with friends.
Plus if someone gets a new gadget we want to know how it performs etc.

I haven't tried it yet, this weekend is the test. I was inspired by Allan's Wimberley head, but they are over $1,000 - I decided to get this and try it for a while and see how I like it. It will get the real test when my 100-400 lens arrives (end July).

Whoop Whoot Cat : I got exactly the same thing yesterday at Teds Camera House supposedly on special.

Not so whoop whoop is that is aint working :confused013 . I do have an issue with my camera though. I found rust on the pop up hinge for the onboard flash which might mean there is corosion underneath the hotshoe and (therefore) the Canon Speedlite contacts are not working on the contacts for the camera.

I have to go check it out with the camera store I brought the speedlite from tomorrow and hope its sumthin simple....otherwise I will asking QLD people where to go to get camera repairs done.

I have the speedlite, the batteries, the diffuser in my hand and have ordered an offshoe cable but no cigar, the flash does not fire and the speedlite is not reading off the camera.

Dang it all: at least I will know if the camera needs working on...:)

Not good wont work David :( worst thing get something new and it wont work - especially for the price if it was same as mine - This was teds also - was cheaper than at a few other stores went to searching for a macro...

Hope you can work it out soon *fingerscrossed* - when i first tested this wouldnt work with AV but would on P and then the next time i tried worked with AV also - so im confused maybe i didnt have the connections in exactly right?

David
26-07-2009, 7:53pm
Hope mine wakes up too Cat.

According to the booklet, P and the green square AUTO mode should work automatically and it is a bit of a jungle to get your head around that booklet, almost as confusing as the 400D manual :).

If you have it working in P or AUTO mode its working and its going to be trial and error and getting our heads around the connection between the Speedlite information and its so called synchronicity (reportedly seamless) with the camera model you and I both have.

Mine wont fire at all.. but I think it is the camera.. hope the guy at Teds tells me otherwise.

I got mine for 400.00 on special but the plus with the II version is the carry case, the mini stand and reportedly a better more secure connection with the hotshoe on the camera. Dont quote me on that; hey get into it and lets see a portrait or 2 on here soon Cat. :)

Yes a nifty 50MM 1.8 will be next on my shopping list, a couple of hundred bucks tops according to shopbot and right here at AP people are talking about it CF other 50MM lenses from the Canon 1.4 and 1.2 / I dunno, i think they have 3 50MM ones at Canon and the price hike between the 1.8 and the next model is alot... stickin to the 'cheapy' notion here, if I can get away with no camera repairs. :(

Miaow
26-07-2009, 8:42pm
50mm 1.8 is $149 at ted's David - DO NOT pay more than that - seems to be the top price down here for them - Another shop that was unfornately closed today has then for 139 - I'd say others have them possibly lower also?

I actually got Teds down to 139 today on one cause I knew the other shop had them at that price but yeah was closed - I would rather actually have bought there (the one closed) :D

David

Teds looks like the place to get the nifty fifty.

Oh by the way, my Speedlite is working fine now (at least its working in A and P modes so far) and Im a very happy camper: seems I hadnt connected it properly but is fine now....now to get my head around the handbook and try out some new shots.

Canon 430 EX II Speedlite is now up and go....does that make me a 'strobist' now :D

I received recently and tried out at the Casula Powerhouse meet on Saturday one BlackRapid Double Strap (http://www.blackrapid.com/product/camera-strap/double-strap/)

This allowed me to have one camera with the 70-200 on it and the other with the 85 1.8. Was comfortable and worked really well. The only issue I had was when bending down I had to control 2 cameras from falling forward.

yeah tell me about it: FILL FLASH, BOUNCE FLASH. FLASH GORDON , WHAT THE ?///// At least we can pester family members and pets (my kitten Bundy HATES me now) when theyre asleep or pretending to be asleep.

Can you get an FD to EF adaptor? Or do you lose aperture control? You loose infinity focus in most cases and you cant stop the lens down on an EF body so you will only be able to meter on the widest setting. You will basically have a lens for macro and nothing else.

Well I got my new bag from D-D-Photographic today... Took advantage of their 50% off Lowepro Camera bags... :-)

I got a Lowepro Computrekker Plus Rolling!!!

Its Huge!!! A lot bigger than my Tamrac Aero 80...

It needs an instruction manual...

I'm not 100% sure if i should have got the non-rolling version over this one... for two reasons, the extra weight, and the extra room that's taken by the handle...

I think I need to learn how to pack it... as because I've got a grip on my 40D it sticks up above the sides...

Anyone got this bag or the non-rolling version, and found a good way to pack their bag?

Today I just got 430 EXII speedlight (another learning curve is about to start) and a new camera bag (Lowepro Slingshot 350AW).

Well done Charton: got the same thing a week ago and have gone nutso with it and the 50MM 2.8 lens all week- have the off camera shoe now but thinking a wireless controller for the 430 might be a better option down the track- meantime an umbrella and/or reflector will do.

Given how much Sabrina is getting in to her photography and wants to expand / improve with it plus she is getting annoyed with the P&S she has been using I have gone and got a second body plus lens for her to use :) As they are both much the same camera it will be easy for me to help and teach her things if we can both try different settings and so on.

I had been looking for a cheap Pentax body for her so we could share lens and stuff, Yesterday I was walking past Tassie cameras and noticed they had a Pentax K200D with the Sigma 18-50mm kit lens for $649 brand new, I spoke to Sabrina last night and went and grabbed it today.

I also picked up one of the yellow Bunnings hard carry cases last night to store / transport it all in, of late I have found myself leaving the camera bag in the car and only carrying my body + lens I need with me, by having this cases we can store all out gear and just take what is needed each time :)

So basically I am now using the K200D with the Pentax 16-45mm F4 and Sabrina has the K-m with the Sigma 18-50mm kit, we both share the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8.
I decide to use the K200D myself as it has a top LCD, weather sealing and is a larger / heavier camera where as the K-m is smaller and suits Sabrina better.

Now for the photo:

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z11/tanger32au/12082009_Cwork1.jpg

The large space in the middle of the case will be cut out a bit to store batteries, SD cards and cables.

Hi Everybody!

After a few months of frenetic activit work-wise (>100% utilisation... ick) I've come up for air and have a couple of minutes to brag about some recent acquisitions that help make the work easier to bear:

- a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet
- Epson Perfection V300 scanner
- Tiffen DFX 2 filter software
and... an Epson R1900 A3+ Printer, for less than $600 new! This one was too good to pass up, and should arrive next week.

Haven't been taking photos much lately, but the more I use my Sigma 17-70 lens, the more I'm loving it.

Meanwhile, the desk the iMac lives on is getting more and more cluttered. The tablet is great and easy to use, especially for fine cloning and healing, and am having great fun turning photos into works of art using the included Corel Painter 4 Essentials.

The Tiffen DFX2 software was a bit of a surprise - liked it so much I bought it after a brief trial. Saves me getting a set of Cokin filters (well except perhaps for the ND filters...).

Am now scanning all the old prints from film photography days. V300 is very nice to use. Even the negs look good, but obviously not as good as a dedicated film scanner.

That's it for now - have to get back to work. I think I'll be able to start posting pikkies again and participating in the forums/fora from the end of the month. Meanwhile, I've decided if I can't beat 'em, I'll join 'em - from now on all my photos will be photoshopped outrageously... :p

Regards,
Calx

Since the original purchase in early July, and subsequent back-order, a couple of weeks turned out to be nearly a couple of months before I got it, but finally the 70-300 G was delivered yesterday. Busy weekend coming up :D

Anyone that knows me and/or my photography would know I'm not that big on gear, preferring to get the most out of what I have and finding the best bang for buck I can get. Even I have to admit though, this lens mounted on an A700 looks pretty bloody awesome. I hope it lives up to its looks.

it's a very nice lens, and once you've had a play with it, I'd love to hear some feedback on any 'focusing issue'.

anyhow.. enjoy! :)

I did it - I lashed out and bought a set of Lee filters (soft grad ND), the holder and a 77mm ring. God, they are beautiful things, you just cannot compare them to the Cokin Ps. Looks like I'll have a set of Cokin filters for sale real soon. I also have bought a 2nd 1D MkII N body, I love the first one so very, very much. It is just a joy to use. And I got myself a Vosonic VBP 8870 media storage thingy.

So yes, I've spent a lot of money lately. But, I am 56, I could put it away for my 'old age' in super or investments. Right. And what if I drop off the perch anytime soon? At least I''ll have enjoyed myself! And I still have a small but goodly sum I DO plan to invest. I've never had spare money to indulge my photographic yearnings before, so they are now indulged. I am going to start getting some prints up in a couple of local stores soon, so maybe I can start to develop a market.

Ok so last week was a little stressful.. And internet shopping turns out to be good stress relief :D

My tri/monopod arrived today (Benro Travel Angel), and I'm still expecting my FA 50mm f/1.4, Hoya pro1 polariser and spare battery (thanks Kym :th3:) and SD card.

Thinking of getting more "useful" things like a wireless remote, and of course keeping an eye on the used lens market ;)

Better run and hide those bank statements before the boy gets back

Am eagerly awaiting my new tripod setup. Decided on the manfrotto 055xprob (think thats is, it's a bit of a mouthful) due to my height and the 488rc2 head.
If you're after a new tripod/head set qualitycamera have a good deal going at the moment - the 055xprob for $250 if you buy a tripod head with it. The heads are competively priced too so turns out to be good value.

Well thats enough money spent for me for awhile, but it was fantastic (therapeutic actually) to get some better gear. In the last couple of weeks I have acquired a Benro 357 Tripod (the one they make for tall people), CS4 and a Canon lens: the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM.

But wait theres more: today I got a very well known Brisbane Camera Store to match a grey import price for this little beauty below, my first L series lens (Canon EF 24-105mm L 4.0 IS USM); I picked it up today with the full Australian Warranty, lens hood and all the other bits in the box: isnt it beautiful :)

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2560/3961146588_d957ded4e4.jpg

Next up will be the 7D body, but thats not going to happen until next year: Ive spent all my pennies for this year.

Actually should add Im considering selling the Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 and going after the Canon 24-70mm equivalent to have a complete Canon stable but thats another issue:)- cause the Canon 70-200mm L in the old non 2.8 version might be my next temptation.

Footnote: Oops, I just won a Canon 70-200mm L USM 4.0 on Ebay so make that 2 L lenses and some explainin to do with the Mrs when she sees a white lens on my camera. They say L lenses become addictive but this is rediculous - stop !!

I just received my Sigma TS-41 ....... all $225 worth...... sorry no pic :(

What is it? Why no pic? Well it is a tripod collar for my secondhand (brilliant) Sigma 120-300 f/2.8. The old models come with a tripod collar that you cannot get your fingers under to carry the camera & lens combination around.

No pic? well ........... a couple of weeks ago I had the Sigma lens on my Canon 40D, and a 580 flash as well. Ahem !!! To put it bluntly -- I dropped the lot!! The lens and flash came out OK - the 40D body broke - the sheer weight of the lens (2.5kg) ripped the lens mount out .....

So -- got a new tripod collar :th3: won't drop it twice - I hope

The 40D is in for repairs - $1,000 -- insured
Paid for a Canon 7D - not seen it yet
thus -- sorry but no pics at this time. Not that it is all that exciting anyway :D

I dont really wanna end up doing weddings mate .. portraiture is where my real interest lies so thats where im heading in the long run. Ive accepted a couple now so I will adopt my usual attitude and do the very best that i can and see how I go. Its good to try a bit of everything and see you stack up i reckon, so really looking forward to the weddings in that regard for sure :)

As for feedback .. Absoultely I appreciate all feedback and that everyone has their own opinions, sometimes based on technical knowledge and sometimes based on personal taste and what they like or dont like. I must be honest though, sometimes when I read feedback from certain people ( and not only on my threads ) I go to that persons profile and look at the threads they have started to see what kind of work they are producing. To be honest there a few around here giving feedback and critique that I dont feel they have the skills to be offering, and thats reflected in the work. I guess thats where it comes down to personal taste. That is a little hard to swallow sometimes but its all part of the process of putting your work up for public appraisal i suppose.

Ummm yeah, that would have been me mate : lol.

Nowadays I try to emphasise its a personal taste comment not based on any skills or know how so I dont act like a total knob :) but the ignorant, no skills punter are going to be your average Joe customer so I guess its worth something when a clutz like me has somethin to say sometimes.

I guess I pay alot more attention to what people with solid landscape experience and runs on the board have to say about my images than people into birding, for example, but all comments and suggestions make me think abit about what Im doing or not doing...so thats a good thing.

bigdazzler
01-10-2009, 8:25pm
no mate not at all .. that certainly was not directed at you I assure you

and its not always what is said, its the way the comments are delivered .. its happened a few times lately .. and i look at the persons work and think to myself " are you serious ?? youre telling me how to do this ?? "

one particular person comments on some pictures like they are an expert .. i go to their profile and nearly 100 threads started, and image threads can be counted on one hand .... thats my point.

its been getting my goat a bit lately .. but this isnt the thread for a rant so ill leave it at that :)

Retail therapy in the last week. Said I would never buy non canon lenses but just have, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 Di II and 430 EX II flash unit and a couple of descent filters, UV and Cir P. Initial feelings, luv them both, especially the lens compared to my kit 18-55 IS which will probably become a door stop as it is to small and lite for an anchor :-).
Got the flash for 370 and the lens for 670 plus the two filters for 130. Oh, WOW WHO.

After a lot of reviews and searching I am now the proud owner of a Nikon 10-24 F3.5-4.5G ED. With the help of Julie-Anne I looked at a Nikon 10-24 in one shop and was disappointed with it sharpness. Then tried a Sigma 10-20 and it was a lot sharper. We then went to a 2nd shop and tried another Nikon, and it had better sharpness and less CA than either of the others. Decision made. :)

Well people, Ive finally decided that the Canon 400D I began with in June 2008 has served me well but its time to move on.

You only go down this road once a freind told me the other day, so Ive decided the upgrade on my lenses wasnt enough, I had to get a better camera body.

The big + with this camera is going to be the live veiw focussing and micro focussing ability it has; great for a person who wears glasses and is short sighted. It means I can see my image in detail on the LCD screen and adjust the focus (live) and know for sure I have an image that is in focus overall or where I want it to be sharp (faces for portraits/ subject for macros).

I hope the combination of this more informed focussing information on the 50D and better post kit lenses will address to a degree the most annoying and persistent problem I have had since the beginning- sharp focus.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2602/3991039466_b1bc38989d_o.jpg

I have to wait until the 14th for the next shipment to arrive from Canon to my camera shop, but I have already downloaded the manual and started reading it.

Bring it on babe, I cant wait to get my hands on this one.

I just sent out for a half hour and shot off some picks. The mirror sounds a bit clackety compared to the 40D when I got it but probably needs wearing in a bit. It's a very responsive tool and the images look fantastic on the LCD.

Images (birds of course) will be up in 30min -assuming my PC talks to the RAW files.

I agree, after testing the 7D I have to say unless you're on a tight budget I wouldn't consider the 50D anymore and go strait to the 7D.. it's a big improvement feature wise and IQ is definitely better as well especially at higher ISO.

About 3 weeks ago I saw a Canon 430ex11 on Ebay for auction. It was being sold as a broken unit which had been dropped. It had a broken Hot shoe, broken front Ir cover, also said it wouldn't flash at all. So I put a max bid in at $51 and was lucky enough to win it. Postage cost me another $10.
When it arrived a few days later I put some fully charged batteries it it and sure enough it wouldn't fire at all, but I could hear it charging (dam buzzing noise)
After doing a search on my friend Google I was shown how to dismantle the head of the flash unit ( the safe way, had to flatten the capacitor other wise Zappo )to find that it had a broken wire and also the zoom mechanism had jammed (probably from being dropped) 15 minutes later all was fixed.
The next day I called into Canon to get a price on the Hot shoe and a new Ir cover. They cost me $17.
Went home put those on ............. and Bingo..........everything works fine.

Total spent $77.

I am a very happy man

Gotta say it was a tough call as those 2 were also on my list but I ultimately chose the longer zoom and HD video..haven't had as much time to play with it as I'd hoped, but so far am happy with the results!

This here is my birthday present to myself for 2009. It finalises a significant (for me anyway) upgrade in body and lenses from the original 400D and kit lenses I started out with a year ago.

It matches the 4.0 max Apeture of 2 of the other L series lenses, can share filters and CPLs with my other 77mm size glass and gives me more options down the bottom focal length end- Happy camper here- no I DIDNT need it , but I wanted it :)

I can agree with that too...

For me, the short term items are: Cokin Filters (NDs and ND Grads) and a 580EX II, and trade my Lowepro Computrekker Plus Rolling for a smaller Lowepro Vertex 100...

Long term (next year or later): replace my Sigma 18-50mm with a Canon 24-70 f2.8L (after the 70-200 2.8L i don't think i want anything other than L lenses, the auto focus speed is to die for :-D), and maybe a new body, either the 7D or 60D (when it comes out), or the 5D, though the slow FPS turns me off it a bit... I don't want to go slower than my 40D (6.5FPS)... The 1D Mk4 would be ideal but the $$$ are way too much for me as a hobbist...

I picked up a 70-200mm F4 L lens from DPP in Brisbane yesterday. Haven't had a chance to use it much as yet, but will be taking it to Melbourne on Thursday for a work out. I got talked down from the dizzying heights of the 70-200mm F4 L IS by a combination of a girlfrend who was noticably slightly irate at the idea, and a bout of common sense.

Also have a B + W CPL filter coming for it sometime this week and am stocking up on cleaning products for lenses as I couldn't find them anywhere in South Korea. Fortunately the filter fits 2 of the three lenses I have at the moment, so it feels like value for money.

Not sure if this counts, but I also have a Dell XPS Studio 16 laptop now. It arrived here at home in Australia about 3 weeks before I did. It has the RGBLED screen and photos look awesome on it.

Would like on of those 10 stop ND filters...they look like fun!

Okay, so I haven't got it just yet, but today I ordered a Nodal Ninja 5 with RD16 rotator and an Ez-Leveler II from iPanoramic. Been after one for ages as those who know me will attest to my love of panoramas. Was going to order it mid last month, but the iPanoramic people were on holidays overseas. A blessing in disguise. From before them leaving to when they returned was a saving of over $230... a WIN situation for sure. Can hardly wait to test it on its arrival. :D

I hope you understand that PS and Aperture are two completely different programmes used for entirely different purposes. Aperture is designed for Digital Asset Management (DAM) cataloging and RAW file processing. PS is a dedicated image editor.

I use Aperture for cataloging and RAWS and PS for further editing/manipulation. To be completely covered in your post processing workflow you will need both.

Yep that will do ya :) Aperture is really only a basic editor and is designed for fundamental core adjustments on your RAW files like exposure, WB, shadows/highlight recovery etc .. The editing capability is not extensive by any means.

Well, that's what I thought from my original question here, but the Apple training guy in the store is a professional photographer and that's all he uses - he spent an hour with me talking to me about my workflow and running through everything it does and how to do things with that I would normally do with PS. But I couldn't let go of Photoshop all together, as I like to fiddle around a bit with merged images, collages, triptychs, digital painting etc and I know I'll need it for that sort of thing.

hes paid to tell you that mate .. Aperture is most definitely not a substitute for Photoshop, but I guess at the end of the day its what you wanna use it for isnt it ?? Id like to hear how he explained how to use layers and masks in Aperture. But all the best with it, it is a good program for RAWs and DAM .. thats why i use it ;) Have a read of this (http://thephotofinishes.com/apert2.htm)

I rang Stu from Quality Camera (http://www.qualitycamera.com.au/)to check availability around 6:15 pm AEST last Thursday and ordered the goods. He was apologetic that they wouldn't be dispatched that day as the courier had already been ( I certainly wasn't expecting them to be sent at that hour, after all the East coast of the country had already 'clocked off ' for the day ) and in line with previous purchases for him they were here on the Monday following.

No doubt this thread will take off after Christmas, but I made a purchase on Saturday.

I ordered a 82mm CPL for my 24-70 in February. First order got lost at the store (didn't get ordered). Second order around May made it to the manufacturer, they lost it. Third order in July arrived at the retailer and sent back because they couldn't find who ordered it (because it was so many months prior). Fourth order arrived at the store, got put on the shelf and sold before I could get in there...

...but FIFTH TIME LUCKY! I finally got my Kenko Pro1D Wideband CPL.

Olympus E-450 + Olympus Zuiko 14-42mm + Olympus Zuiko 70-300mm f/4

I found that the E-450 does not have IS and the grip was too small so after talking to the shop I have swapped it over for the E-520.

Good thinking. Particularly if your using the 70-300 without a tripod, IS should help a little.

Lowepro Voyager C Camera Strap arrived today... wow, leaves the Canon camera strap for dead!!! It's soo comfortable, even when slung over one shoulder, straight or on the diagonal. When I get my 5D MkII some time in the new year, I'll get one for it, also.

I also like that there's no camera model brandished on it. The 40D is okay, it just says Canon EOS Digital, but subsequent cameras have the name of the camera on the strap... almost yells, "Come and steal me!!!"

the nikkor 35 f/2.0 arrived and got a short workout.

i owned the 35/1.8 previously and sold it. it was an excellent performer but let me down in barrel distortion, bokeh smoothness, and colour fringing. so far, the f/2 beats it in distortion control and bokeh rendering. colour fringing is still a minor problem though. i don't feel the need for AFS on primes so i'm happy with the f/2 which i can use freely on film without worring about vignetting.

Been working LOTS of overtime over the Christmas/New Year period so I decided to rewards my hard efforts with some fine editions to my lighting gear:

SB900, Yongnuo RF602 trigger set, Rosco Strobist gel kit, lightstand, sandbags, 42" shoot thru brolly and 1m x 1m pop up soft box with a speedring adapter courtesy of Image Melbourne.
Now I just need to spend the weekend making some stubbie holder snoots and get some fabric from Spotlight for some backdrops. Little does my spare bedroom know it shall soon become a mini studio. :)

I got a few free things from one of the local photographers (the guy who took my wedding photos).

A Metz 45CL-4 Flash. Possibly ok for off camera strobist stuff :-)

A Courtenay Photonics Solaflash 4 Studio Strobe. Not sure on specs...

Plus some gear for developing film, and the gear for print photos from film including a enlarger (colour), a red safe light for black and white film. Some of the gear is for black and white only, some of it is for colour.

And when I'm ready to develop and print sometime later in the year (when i've got more space to actually set it up), he wants me to give him a call and he'll teach me how to develop the film and then how to print it :-)

thanks darren, a reflector is on my list!

have you got any advice as to what size is most useful?

mate they come in all shapes and sizes .. Ive got a larger more rectangular shaped one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Collapsible-5-in-1-102cm-x-168cm-40-x-66-Reflector-AU_W0QQitemZ140345094269QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cameras_Photographic_Accessories?hash=item20ad38307d) and a small round one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Collapsible-5-in-1-60cm-24-Reflector-AU_W0QQitemZ140345094263QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cameras_Photographic_Accessories?hash=item20ad383077). It really depends on what youre shooting, how much light you wanna bounce around, and what space you have. I find the large one useful outdoors. The bigger scrim comes in real handy in really bright light.

Luckily for me there is plenty of overtime going around at the moment so I went ahead and purchased the Think Tank Pro Speed Belt, Pixel harness and Modular set. Will post a full review when I get to try them out. Should be good in this hot weather

Great choice, ive had mine for about 8 months and its near ideal, just needs a sternum strap. The ability to move the pouches around easily is a winner.
Enjoy your purchase:)

what do you mean not wireless?
I connected the receivers and these new flashlites and they work fine. I'm using them on my lighting stands with a soft box and a umbrella. I might set it all up on saturday and give them a test run.

I assume they are saying that the wireless transmitters you are using don't transmit the metering info from the camera to the lens. Eg. Nikon is iTTL (?) and Canon E-TTL, there are very few transmitters around that send the TTL information to the flash so most of the time they need to be used in manual.

You have to use the flashes on manual and set your exposure yourself.
E-TTL (automatic metering and flash metering) does not work with any radio receivers other than the Pocket Wizard Mini and Flex. I can't quite remember but you bought the RF-602 triggers ??.

The YN-465 will only work in E-TTL mode when actually attached to the camera.

Thanks for that. I think I know what you mean. I have to learn about flashes now. :o

I did try them out and you have to manually adjust them to suit the flash but that's what I want to do anyway because I only wanted them for my lighting kit and the manual adjustment is want I want to do to get the different effects. Set each one to do what I want it to do. I won't be using them on my camera at all. I have my canon flash for that.

Hopefully I will know more tomorrow when I set it all up.:)

That's right Mark..... I got what you mean. What I want to use them for will suit me well. I had a play last night to see whether they will set off. You had me worried they wouldn't do anything at all. But I understand now what you mean. Thanks for helping out.

Just bought a Canon 50mm 1.4 USM this arvo. Was looking at the Sigma for a while but in the end I want to upgrade bodies shortly, so I saved some money for that. And also some weight since its half the weight of the Sigma

Pretty happy with it so far, after taking some shots of a lens I want to sell. Will have to play with it some more though on the weekend.

Congrats Corina. Someone put me onto this link - B&H Videos (http://www.video.bhphotovideo.com/?f...b9a26a992d3ab2) . Do a search for 7D and you'll get 4 videos. The last 3 are a presentation some Canon guy gave. He gives a lot of info about the 7D that I didn't get from reading the manual.

Enjoy.

Yeah it seems great, I gave it a good testing yesterday afternoon doing these shots (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?t=49253).

I'm using a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head at the moment, seemed perfectly fine with my current gear. See how it goes once I get the 5D but I'd say it'd be fine too. Since I don't plan on having any heavy telephotos anytime soon.

Hi Kaiser...

If you like buying books, why not give book depository a try, free air delivery to Australia, the price may seems more than Amazon, but it is actually cheaper after adding the freight cost from Amazon...

w000t!!!!

I just got a 1D MKIII!!!

I'm not sure if it was a good trade, but i've wanted a 1 series since i first layed my hands on a demo version at a photo convention 4 years ago...

Now i got one!!

I traded my second 5d mk1 with grip and 24L mk1 for a 1d3 + some cash.

I didn't use the 24L as much as i thought i would, so its probably worked out for me.

Now I have the best of both worlds with FF and 1.3 crop, i'm just not sure which one will become my "main" camera :D

This thing is a beast!!!!

Lowepro Flipside 400 AW arrived today and I am about to head out with it.

Fits nearly all my gear: will have to choose my lenses carefully.

Only downside is the 155 XPro-B is top heavy on the tripod carrier, hangs back and wobbles all over the place. Fortunately the 155 XPro-B snaps apart in a jiffy and can be stored and strapped into the side pouches well. I may be taking it over to the local to have some additional straps put on to support the tripod better so it can do the job nicely.

Got a set of RF-602s. First impression - can't believe how cheap they were, and they look very good. Smaller than I expected, which is good. Second impression - they are loose on hotshoe mounts, with no locking mechanism. Will have to google to see how others found these.

Just had a personal delivery of a D700 by David Clifford!!!!! It was great to meet him and Charmed (Simone) who came along too. Thanks David, I know for sure that we'll enjoy this very much indeed.

Tried out this fabulous new body with the Sigma 24-70 while we all took in the local scenery and was very, very happy with the results. A couple of quick pics as samples below.

Sample 1 "White and Blue": at 24mm, WB Direct Sunlight, Aperture 7.1 (no particluar reason for this), 1/200 @ ISO 200 - I wanted to see how the colour compared to real life - needless to say I was impressed .... (tweaked the colour contrast by 2 and gave USM)

Sample 2 "Face Off": at 70mm, WB Cloudy, Aperture 9 (focus on rock face - middle ground to see how the foreground and background came up), 1/400 @ ISO 200 (upped the colour contrast by 4, warmth by 5 and USM) - yep, pleased as punch :)
