We went to take a few shots during the ceremonial start of the Iditarod today. This year there is a team from down under. So I thought I'd post a couple of shots here. Also here's a link (http://iditarod.com/race/2014/mushers/984-Christian-Turner/)to his bio. I'll be interested to see how much Ozzie spirit he has behind him!

The lead dog doesn't look like there's much heeler nor border collie blood in him.

I believe in the past, there have been Australians compete in the Iditarod.
Particularly like the first photo.
Mad buggers!

Very Interesting all the same probably too cold for Aussie Cattle Dogs, I like the shoes on them and what a great idea.
Gee that's cold over there some days as low as minus 10 degrees C at this time of the year brrrr anyway Thanks for Posting :2encou:

Glad you folks enjoyed the post. Anyone interested in how the lad is doing can find the standings on the site that the link takes you to.

I'm sad to pass on the news to you that your lad didn't win this year. But he's a game'n and still in it. The top five have finished and the Ozzie lad is currently in 41st place and about 375k from the finish (or about 3/4 of the way through the race). Good news is that he is pulling away from the Jamaican team who are now two places back in 43rd spot. And the Ozzie lad is a rookie !

All joking aside, it is a brutal race and anyone who takes it on, much less finishes, has my admiration. Hopefully he'll hang on till the finish line and will at least have a story that's worth a round at the pub.

Thanks for the photos and the update.

Good to hear he's hanging in there.
