I had read reviews of the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED but had never seen one in the flesh so to speak. I had the chance to have a play with a sample the other day and it seems to be as good as everyone claims.
The sharpness is on a par with an old model Tamron 90mm we have but the Nikkor is far superior when it comes to colour, contrast and chromatic aberration as well as focussing very rapidly.

I really think that it is probably the best bargain in lenses from Nikon for a long time. A couple of hand held sample shots. Both auto white balance, 6400 iso and NEF files converted to jpeg with an in camera picture control applied.

I had the AFD version mate ..it was tack sharp ..but like a fool I sold it!!...i found that 60mm was too short for a macro lens..but it was great on a dx camera for portraits and I wish I still had it !:o

Id imagine the AFS version would be very good indeed

That was probably the only thing stopping me getting one .. working distances.

Oh yeah!... plus the point that it has no aperture collar, and hence is useless on a bellows(my main reason to acquire one).
