So I've jumped...bought a Sigma 35 1.4 from a reputable Brisbane dealer on line with protection filter for a great price against the new Canon 35 IS.All reports are I've gone the right path so any thoughts???

Good choice of lens :th3:, see if you can capitalise on the deal and sell the "protection filter" unless you want the images to come out like those from an inferior Canon lens.

Given where I live I choose to wipe a cloth (regularly for salt spray) over a throw away filter rather than the front element.

It's a stunning lens and I'm sure you'll love it.

f/1.4, you've got to get the focus right. but you already know that.

These are auto focus & I've done no micro adjust as yet so I'm pretty happy straight out of the box but as you said 1.4 is very very shallow

I was playing with the Nikon similarly specced version of this lens type a few weeks back and unfortunately for me(or more accurately, my bank balance) I've convinced myself that I also need this type of lens too.

These images haven't helped in my financially depleting conundrum either! :D

The images look good.

I think Sigma make top lenses. I brought the f1.4/ 50mm lens and it performs awesome. I have already had a mate borrow it over the weekend for a school formal shot.

I've got a fifty myself & thats what started me looking at the 35. From 2.0 on my fifty was brilliant but it seems that the 35 will be just as good or better at 1.4 ...very sharp!
