Hey guys Im after a bit of advice whether to repair or ditch the above lens, its constantly making a noise like the stabiliser is constantly on and wont focus. This happened just outside the warranty which cost $560 for the repair, now that the repair warranty has finished its happened again. Two repairs would be more than a new one, what would you do.

Search on this forum for the same problem that constantly rears its head with that lens.

Some have had it successfully repaired and others have traded it in very promptly.

Followed your lens link, also put in make and model in advanced search but didn't find anything :confused013

The "lens link" is a generic site applied library reference.

Here are a few posts on the problem, there are probably more -----

Or, call Canon and discuss it, that is, if it's still fairly new/hasn't been maltreated, etc.

Thanks everyone I wasn't aware this lens had had a few problems, shame as it had been a good lens. As for talking with canon I used to be a cps member but even then found it quicker and cheaper to get things fixed elsewhere. Time to look for something new :D

I ought mine about 2 yrs ago and being aware of the issue struck a deal to have a 5 yr warranty thrown in. Figure if it dies after that I will just upgrade to 24-70.

If the second fault has occurred fairly close to getting the original repair you may still be entitled to get it fixed......I thought that Canon had a 3 or 6 month warranty on repairs

Its well passed the 3 month warranty and I havant had the best luck with canon and repairs, my shutter packed in on my first d series at 10500 clicks two weeks outside warranty which cost $750 4 yrs ago. I will put it on ebay as not working.

From the sounds of this saga, you should look for a cannon to aim and fire at your Canonery:(:(:(
