Hi everyone..... I hope someone can help me out with some info to do with Travel Insurance. I'm travelling to Thailand in August for 3 weeks, but I'm having trouble with making sure all my camera gear is reasonably covered by insurance. I'm not sure if I'm taking to much stuff or it is a fact that the gear does cost a lot and it does add up when you total the cost of it all.
So the main question is - Does anyone know who is good to buy travel insurance off when travelling with a bit of camera gear?

The gear I'll be taking is
- 5D MarkIII
- 17-40L
- 24-70L
- Aquatech Water Housing
- Apple 15" Laptop
- Manfrotto Tripod
- 64G CF Card
- GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition
- Canon G11 + Housing

There's $1000's of gear.... and also the "secret item" a diamond ring (wink wink) So I want to make sure that is covered also.

PLEASE HELP!!! :confused013

I read it as though you are having troubles getting your head around that all insurers that you have obtained quotes from expect HUGE $ cost policy premiums.
That seems to be the norm if you approach travel insurance specialists, the smart money is on having your gear insured through a household / contents policy that covers you whilst away from home.
They work out a LOT cheaper but usually have to be arranged a bit more in advance than less than 1 month -----

Balance the costs against buying expensive insurance vs a new camera such as a Fuji X series that will be ultimately harder to steal, will take up a lot less room in your luggage and will still deliver 99% of the IQ that the expensive bulky gear will produce.

No sorry..... the problem I'm having is that the value in the cover they offer doesn't meet the amount of how much it would cost to replace ALL of my gear? Let's say all my gear got stolen out of my hotel, the amount that they offer is $3500, which will only be enough to cover the camera  So I'm wanting cover up to around $7000 for my camera gear but I can't find an insurer that will do it?

So my question is - Does anyone know of an insurer that will do cover to that amount ($7000) for my camera gear? Or am I just dreaming? :(

Nope, sorry!
But, if you Google "insurance for professional photographers"
this crowd comes up first (OK, at least in NSW):
http://photoinsurance.com.au/

Hope it's at least a start.

We have just bought some Allianz Comprehensive (Plan A) Travel Insurance which gives us $7,500 worth of cover for Luggage and Personal effects along with a heap of other coverage. Don't know if this is what you are looking for but it might be worth investigating. Have a great trip! :)

Don't worry about travel insurance, just get special item insurance through your home and contents.

That's what I have and they cover me for ANYTHING. You should finely check what your "travel insurance" policy covers you for. It might cover you for $xthousand dollars worth of luggage, but there may be strict stipulations on how that is lost or stolen.

The cost of "special item insurance" coverage is about 2% of the value (purchase) price of each item and you need to give them the serial number etc. Special item insurance (worded differently for other insurers) could cover cameras, rings, whatever.
