I know you only get what you pay for - but I'm not particularly wealthy, so sometimes look for stop gap measures until I save for the right lens.

Has anyone had any experience with the ebay wide angle lenses? 0.45X 58mm Wide Angle Lens for Canon 550D 400D 450D 500D 600D 1000D 58mm

At $11.65?

I mean... is it real glass? Does it work?

I haven't had any experience with them, but I don't think it will be much good.

I have no doubt it would give you a wider imagine, but I think it will also give you a lot of vignetting and a very soft image.

I think you would be far better off keeping an eye out for a second hand lens, or getting a cheap Samyang/Rokinon/Bower wide angle, they can be as cheap as $250, a lot more than $12 I know but you can't beat their performance price point.

Yep, Coffee sounds great!

Save your $$ and get a canon 11-22 or a sigma 10-20. Both at around $500 are great lenses.

Fail that, I'm told the Canon 15-85 is a good WA alternative lens.

I did get cheap batteries and charger for my smart phone on ebay, and they hold the charge the same as the samsung ones. So... there's an occasional win to be had on the cheap, but I knew I was kidding myself over lenses.

Undoubtedly more fun than the $11.65 one, and still pretty cheap.

Normally I wouldn't bother, but for the cost of 2 coffees, it could be worth trying just for the hell of it. I'm not wealthy myself, but even I can afford to throw $12 at something - even if it's junk - just to have a play.
If the Wide angle is a flop, there's still the macro section to have a play with as well.

I imagine they'll be total junk, but it's not like you're weighing up outlaying a heap of money to find out. But then wealthy people get wealthy by not even throwing away $12 if they don't have to. So I could be wrong.

To keep going with the 15-85 mentioned above, I put mine on a 50D then 7D. Have never been disappointed, one top walk around lens.:tog:

I have the samyang 8mm and it's good (for what it is). It's manual focus, but as some reviewers have pointed out, at 8mm your DOF is huge, anything more than about 1.5m away is infinity, so you basically just set it to infinity (true infinity as the stop might not be calibrated) and never change it. You can even wrap a rubber charity bracelet around it so the focus doesn't get bumped.

I did buy something like that a few years ago. I tried the wide angle once and never again. The macro is ok enough for a bit of fun.
