Hi all. I'm new here and have a question about my Panasonic DMC-FT1. It's one of those point & shoot Shockproof, Waterproof models. We purchased it to take photos while snorkelling in Fiji, which it did very well.

However, I have read somewhere that the seals need to be replaced on a regular basis. It was last used under water in January 2010, and has been used as a "dry land" camera since then.

We will be returning to Fiji in 2014, and would like to use the camera while snorkelling again. Should we get the seals checked and/or replaced before going, and if so, does anyone have an idea of what the cost would be?

I would smear a light film of Vaseline on the seals to keep them supple and protect them. I reckon they would be good to go unless there is obvious signs of them perishing.

^^ What Russell said.

Additionally, I'd suggest testing the seals in Fresh water before going for a swim in the big salty pond. Electronics and Salt really don't make for good bed buddies.

Have your rice on standby just in case :D

Thanks for the advice. I'll check the seals, give it a test run, and see how it goes.
