Just wondering if anyone could recommend a repairer in Cairns or somewhere close? A friend who has my old Canon 50D has an issue where the shutter button has lost all its spring, so it is always in the 1/2 pushed in position. Looks like it is a reasonably easy repair, but up there nothing is easy! :2apolo:

Cheers,

I had the same thing happen with my Canon 50D the day before we left to come home after four weeks in South Africa. I am so pleased that it happened then though and not at the start of the holiday. We live in Sydney so it is not far for me to take it to Canon and the repair cost me $215 which I thought was reasonable. Is there any way that the camera could be posted to Canon? I am sure that there would be one in Brisbane.

I don't know directly, but searching on "camera repairs cairns" listed a goodly few, one being a local Camera House.
You should still find an adept technician in such a place.

Best of luck Mic, I reckon freight to Sydney is the go. :(

Highly unlikely, I had a look in that store for a card reader a while ago and showed them how easily the cheap POS stuff they had for sale fell apart under normal use.
That place would have to be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
The only adept technician that they would have there would be the one that could differentiate between "credit" and "savings" on the cash register. :D

Nope, closest is probably Anderson's at Capalaba, in Brissy

By "such" I meant it was not the only listing there. I also thought that C being a place catering for milliards of tourists...
Indeed it would be sad if the only skills to be found would be the ones that separate credit from customers.

My friend called around in Cairns and couldn't find anyone that would touch it. She sent it to a friend in Sydney who has a local guy that does her repairs. Funny thing was when it arrived in Sydney it was working fine!! It is going to get a service and maybe a new shutter button anyway. Will come back with an update when I hear. Thanks all!
