Some of you may have noticed that there is a new forum on the site 'Photographic News', it shows up under the Camera/Lens/Gear talk forum in the Forum List (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/forum.php).

At present the new forum is closed for posting, but visible to members. After a quick mods discussion, we have opened the forum NOW

This new forum is for time relevant News about Photography. Each week a new thread will be started for 'News of the Week', and some news added by myself or a moderator. Members are welcome to add to the threads, or discuss the news items that appear, in the weekly thread. We only want current news items about photography. For example, if a new camera is announced, this Photographic News forum would be the place to put that announcement, with links to the relevant media release(s) etc, but if you want an ongoing discussion about the features/pricing etc, that should be put into the brand forum in camera/lens/gear.

The new forum will open up and begin being used from 1st January 2013. NOW. (Our 2013 present to members). In the meantime, below is an example of the sort of things we plan on putting into the Photographic News Forum 'News of the Week' thread.

NOTE the below is a SAMPLE collated by myself to create an idea of what the Photographic News forum is for (all items are REAL)

Welcome to the Ausphotography News of the Week discussion thread for 9th December 2012.

Members are welcome to add items to this thread and/or discuss items already mentioned. Any item added must be time-relevant. For example, no use adding that Nikon have introduced the D800, cause they did so months ago. Only current, relevant, photography related matters may be added to our Ausphotography News of the Week discussion threads. Do not post 'rumours' to this thread/forum. Include web links where possible.

SnapSeep App
Google acquired Nik Software recently and have now updated the SnapSeed app for Android and iOS devices, and made it free. SnapSeed is a mobile device editing package that offers a huge range of filters and the ubiquitous control points that Nik Software are famous for. To download your copy, use your devices store and search for 'snapseed': http://www.snapseed.com/

The Black Marble - views of Earth
Nasa have released a series of composite photos they have called 'The Black Marble'. The photos were taken by the NASA-NOAA polar orbiting satellite over a series of 312 orbits during 9 days in April and 13 days in October. To view the Earth as you have probably never seen it before, click the link: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features/NightLights/?src=features-hp

Photo of the Week
Ausphotography is running its third Photo of the Week prize competition. Starting tonight (Sunday 9th December) our beginner members will have the chance to win a Western Digital 750GB USB3 hard drive. Click the link to find out more: http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?113604-Hard-Drive-Give-away-Beginner-members-Your-TWIST

New Disposable B&W film cameras
Ilford have announced two disposable black and white cameras. They shoot ISO 400 film, one with Ilford XP2 and the other with Ilford HP5. Whilst the rest of the world seems to be going away from film, these two new additions could find a very happy niche market. I am not sure of availability in Australia, but they are out in the UK right now: http://www.petapixel.com/2012/12/04/ilford-launches-new-disposable-cameras-loaded-with-its-black-and-white-film/

Members are invited to add any relevant photography news items to this thread (must be current) and also discussions on the new items are welcome.

Anything that will help make us aware of new developments would be a great idea. It could be the source of an answer to a question that you can't find anywhere else on the site. It's a great idea I reckon.

Jeez Ronny, can't you get a little more involved in AP than that?
