Hi guys i'm looking at getting a new tripod in the $500-$700 range, problem being there is so much choice in this range that my head is spinning.
I've already got a compact travel tripod, so size and weight aren't real issues. What i would like is something that is sturdy, with a fair height range, and able to carry a reasonable weight (7D+grip with 100-400L).
I assume that carbon fibre is the way to go?

Here are some i've looked at;
Benro C2970F3
Benro C4570T
Vanguard Auctus 323CT
Vanguard Alta Pro 284CT
Silk Pro 923CF-3

Thanks Kipp

Cf is defintely the way to go.
Not just because it's lighter, bu they shake a lot less than aluminium ones do.

The other thing ot consider using a heavy lens like the 100-400, is the head.
A lot of heads that come with tripods are really not up to the task of keeping a heavy lens steady.
I've tried a number of heads and with the weight of my 100-400, most of them droop regardless of how tight you do them up.

Personally, I have a Benro CF travel tripod (their largest one) and an Acratech GP balhead, and its as steady as a rock.

Benro C4570T ......

I think these 4xxx series are their best value for money if sturdiness is a priority

The Acratech GP is a gret panorama head, as you can mount it upside down and use it as a levelling base, saving you a lot of hassle.
