Out for an evening walk, I surreptitiously dropped back and let the wife get ahead with the dog, got the camera ready, and then called him. Was so funny to see his face when he realised how far behind I was, and came bounding towards me flat out.
Not sure if I failed to keep the focus, or the Intelligent Tracking focus failed, or if I just moved the camera too much, but with the camera on rapid fire, not one of the shots came out in focus on his face like I'd have wanted, which is why I've posted this here instead of in the CC, because this took way too much sharpening to make it remotely useable, and it required a massive crop, but I couldn't help laugh at the evil look, and the fact that he's been caught mid "spring" (why do springer spaniels "spring" rather than run?) so that I ended up with a really evil looking "hover dog"

Nope, believe it or not, the colour around his mouth is hair dye.
He got into a tube of my daughters' hair dye quite some time ago, and the colour hasn't grown out yet (these dogs don't shed fur, they have to be clipped as it just grows and grows) so eventually he should get rid of some of the colour, but food, drool, and digging in the soil pretty much keep it dark coloured no matter what we do.

He does not look like any springer spaniel I have ever seen but I love his expression - the "focus" is definitely on you!:D

He's a spoodle, Springer Spaniel Dad, and Poodle Mum.

He's a spoodle, Springer Spaniel Dad, and Poodle Mum.

I thought he might have been one of the poodle crosses with all that curly hair - they are usually quite intelligent dogs too! He is a cutie!

Very intelligent. My daughter taught him to "High 5" and he does it so adorably it's so cute it's painful.
We're also in the process of teaching him to "Speak" (bark on command with just a hand gesture, or the word "Speak") so that if the wife or kids are at home and feeling nervous, they can make him bark with a silent hand gesture so that if there is someone hanging around, they'll think the dog has detected them without realising it's a command from us.
Now if he'd just sit, heel, walk on a slack lead, etc etc. But we've only had him 8 months, and I haven't bothered to do too much with him, as he's technically my daughter's dog, but she's a bit slack with the training side of things.
