Gidday, my name is Tracey. I was lucky enough to meet Julie-Anne and Ivan whilst on vacation with my husband Peter when in Tasmania, just outside Port Arthur in January of ths year. I recently bought a DSLR as my 2 daughters have pretty much left the nest and I needed to find a hobby which I am passionate about. I have always been the one with the point ad shoot, a good one of cause, but wanted to take it a step or two further. So, here I am.

Cannon 60D and a couple of lenses in my kit, along with a few other probably useless items I bought on ebay while off sick with Whooping cough & trying to occupy my time. Caught that in Tassie :-( So, I pretty much know very little about manual shooting. I did a course in January and have also bought an online one, which has been pretty good. However, 've gotta say that I have probably learnt the most from spending a couple of hours with Jas and a couple of her friends a few weeks back that have really helped me with the important basics. Yep, they seemed to have sunk in, so there is hope!!!

So that's about it for me at the moment. Will post a pic or two when theyr'e woth looking at or when I work out how, whchever i decide on lol. Till then,

Tracey

Hi Tracey and welcome to AP!!!

First of all, congratulations on the DSLR - I am sure you will find this very rewarding and fulfilling! One of the great things about DSLR photography is that there is never a point where you have learnt it all, like any artform - Your knowledge just keeps on growing and growing!! So it sounds like you have picked a perfect hobby for yourself! You have also done the right step in joining up to this site. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago and I have learnt so much as a result of this site and trial and error, I can see a definite improvement in my shooting! Still learning, but getting a handle on things! Be sure to check out the New To Photography forums (NTP) as these will give you great insight into all the knowledge you will need to get you started. This can be found here - http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showlibrary.php?title=Indexes:New_To_Photography_Book and as for how to do things on here, be sure to check out http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showlibrary.php?title=Indexes:How_Do_I. Take it at your own pace - Learn as it suits you, but most importantly - Have fun and enjoy it!

As for putting up photos - By all means, put up your photos - Everyone here is really welcoming, nice and the will guide you as to how to improve on your work, so never be afraid to put up what you have taken. If you ever have a question, put that up also - I have done this numerous times and been granted many helpful responses!! I am looking forward to seeing your photographs.

All the best,

Erin.

:gday: & Welcome
- lets see some photos in the main CC forums (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?5) maybe try a competition or 2 and have fun!

Staying active is easy and fun, just post an image for CC once a fortnight and
post 2 or 3 CC comments to other images in the same fortnight.
See http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showlibrary.php?title=How_Do_I:Restore_my_access_from_inactive_status
Then your inactive timeout resets to 90 days after 6 months of continuing activity.
