    MS Windows 10 - anybody?

    Hi Folks.
Well, a snippet was mentioned on the news last night - it was released yesterday, I gathered.

Has anybody already downloaded and installed it yet?

For (pecuniary) interest, scroll down to the "How much does Windows 10 cost?" section in
    this link here.

I'm quite with Win 8.1 at present, but I reckon I will avail myself of this offer soon.

    Am.
    CC, Image editing OK.

I'm going to be a little cautious and hang back a few weeks to see what others think and gauge their reactions "I'm sure it'll be another must have" (--~--)

I'll be holding off on upgrading for as long as possible, I am hearing on a PC forum that a few people are having issues....

Also those that are concerned about their privacy I suggested you have a read of this, it's a little worrying....

Im on the upgrade path for my laptop only. I wanted to see it and use it on one device before I even think about it on others. So I guess someday soon it will say it has downloaded in the background (3GB download) and that my lappy is ready to upgrade.

    Yeah!
I loaded it on my tablet(originally Win7) a few months ago, and love it.
Of course this is obviously the Preview(developer) version, and not the RTM version of Win10, but I made my mind up ages ago that I was going to update my PC from Win7 to Win10 almost ASAP.

My Tablet is very limited on the hardware front(Atom CPU, 2Gb of slow RAM, 32bit only .. etc) and with the old mechanical HDD it was a total slug .. not to mention that Win7 is far from Tablet friendly.

I can report that Win10 is as backward compatible with many old software as Win7 is/was.
I haven't had any issues with ViewNX2(as many of us Nikon software types worry about) nor CaptureNX2.

The main reason I have this Tablet is that I use it to tune the LPG system on my car .. which needs a Windows environment.
The software for the LPG system is written with Win98 in mind, and at some point they also updated it for a Win2000 OS too .. just to highlight the point of how old this software is.
And I've had no problem with it running on Win7 for years, and now Win10(Preview).
USB driver loaded without issue even tho a warning came up saying that this driver wasn't WHQL certified .. etc, etc.

Boot up time for Win10 is half that of Win7 on the tablet too, which is important when battery life is limited.

I do also use the Tablet for photo storage/viewing/sorting if I'm on an extended trip to somewhere, and very very occasionally some browsing and stuff, but it's too small and underpowered to do too much with it in that sense.

As for the security/privacy issues that are sure to make headlines all across the globe .. I'll deal with them as I feel the need too.
And seriously, as if I care that an advertiser that I'm going to ignore(as I always do) is going to know that my machine is the same one as it was the last time they looked!

if this was actually a problem for many folks .. do you think they'd have a facebook/google/twitter account.
I hardly think that this issue is really an issue in this day and age .. they already know who you are .. now M$'s advertising clients will know this too.

It seems like a worthwhile update to W7, unlike W8, but like a lot of others I'll wait a month or so to see what sort of feedback it gets from real world users.

I am in the queue to get it. I heard this afternoon that if you don't like it within 30 days, you can revert to your old operating system with no harm done.

Be thankful, with the state of our 'net connection I estimate that a 3gb download would take around 362 days, 12 hours and 32 minutes, all that is irrelevant though because at the 148 days, 6 hours and 15 minute mark the power supply to our hamlet would fail for a minimum of 18 hours -----

Took an hour to install and that was a painless procedure. My initial impression is very good.

    Like:

    - the reading view in the new Edge browser
    - being able to keep 4 apps/program windows open on the desktop at one time
-for some reason text on web pages and in Word seems easier to read?

    Dislike:
-waiting to see if any unpleasant surprises may be lurking.......

    Andrew, I feel your frustration.

Until Telstra put in a tower just down the road from me my download speed was approx 1MB per MINUTE, on a good day ! And the bloody thing would drop out at least once, and I would have to dial up again, at a cost of 18c per pop.

Also running it on my Surface Pro 3. Working very well. A massive improvement on Windows 8 which was dismal.
