These sort of messages hit my spam box daily.
Nothing special here, just use normal safe protocols, i.e. type the URL yourself, never click a link from an email

I'm a Bigpond user and it has been months since I've had a phishing email. Maybe between Bigpond and MS Security Essentials most are being weeded out.

I'm on bigpond as well and I got these particular ones for a good few months, I reported some of them to Paypal and ignored most. Eventually they stopped. I've been getting US postal service ones as well.

LOL! .. maybe I'm just totally paranoid, but all emails from any institutions I get get deleted immediately .. without second thought.
Even the one's that are legit .. that is .. correspond to my actual accounts I have with those banks!

Although in saying that, my bank(s) never send me emails with links in them .. just info that my latest e-statement is available for viewing now.

Even if they sent me an email explaining that my @$$ was on fire, and it turned out to be true .. I'd still ignore it!! ... and just pop a couple of snags onto the flames!

And one from Apple. Copied the link, and the .com site came up with "unsafe site"

As it so happens I know that you one the UK lotto and to further your good fortune I can get you a $4,000.00 discount on the 800 F/5.6, all you need to do to secure that special price is to send me USD $1,000.00 by Western Union to my bank account in Nigeria ----

I'm keeping this as a copy of the good hearted and unselfish nature of Nigerians for future reference. So many people complain about getting scammed but here we have someone who isn't caught up in capitalism and is prepared to provide an 800mm lens at a substantial discount just to keep the consumer happy. I wish the local retailers were more like you.

Perhaps an overlooked element in this is the use of the ladies email address in the scam email.

I'd bet quids that she is an innocent bystander in this scam and has had her email address hacked.

Whois reveals that the scammers origin is Brazil.

PS: I googled the ladies email address and came up with a local sporting website that has her details on it. I have phoned her and warned her that her Bigpond account may have been compromised and to contact them and immediately change her password. Hope they haven't hacked her mobile too.
