Olympus extrernal flashes

Just a quick question, how does the Olympus flash system work? I have read that the E3 supports wireless flash but do other bodies also support this?

Just learning about these myself too! But i know the FL36R can be set off wirelessly using the popup flash.

my old e520 used the pop-up flash as a trigger for the external flash

it was nice but a couple of things were not nice: 1) it only worked up to about 10 feet max; 2) the pop up always fired with the external - whether u wanted it to or not.

Thanks to both of you, it sounds like you need to use the pop up flash which I don't really want to do and the short distance does not sound very useful

On Nikon the pop up flash can be dialed right down to almost zero light output and still act OK as the commander.

Worth looking into that, I'd be surprised if it's not the same sort of set-up

I usually go to the 4/3rds forums when i want to know something specific about the system, mainly because there are fewer people using it, there's less info around.

1. Unlike Canikon loudmouths, four-thirds users only post when they have something interesting to say.
2. They don't post because they are all out taking pictures.
3. There aren't any four-thirds users here. Not to mention.
4. They don't post because they are waiting for someone to teach them how to read.
5. They don't post because the system is so well designed that everything is obvious (even composition). There are no questions. There are no answers.

Doesn't the pop up go before the shutter opens so it does not affect the flash lighting

only the E3 and E620 support true wireless flash. eg fl36R and fl50R. Like all cameras you can but OEM wireless switches and receivers on other cameras and flashes

I have the 520 and the 50R Flash. The 520 controls it quite well providing you turn RC Mode on in the Camera 2 sub menu.
