Ive got the Tammy 11-18 and under certain conditions its Chromatic Abberation is BAD, but it only occurs occassionally. So i hope they resolve this with the new one

They should be fixing the problem with CA on this one...but we'll have to wait and see...one of 2 things will happen (I hope)...

    1. The tammie comes out with awesome reviews and I get it.
    2. The tammie comes out and the prices of the 2nd hand siggie drop and I can have it cheap!

Hopefully this lens will be as good as Tamron's current modern designs??

But the upcoming lens to look out for(I think) will be Tokina's 11-16mm f/2.8(for DX only!)

Generally these kinds of lenses will have better IQ(and as some prefer, better build too) but the smaller zoom ratio, and constant aperture may be an indication that this lens could be better.. expect to pay for it though!

No one really ever mentions much about Tokina for some reason, cant speak for all Tokina lenses except the one I have,. The 17mm f3.5 ultra wide is the only lens I have so far never produces CA, all my other lenses including the 80-200 Nikon show it too often.

Primes are far less likely to CA simply becasue they are fixed focal length, and therefore easier to correct for.
Not always the case, and a lot will still show some CA when used at very wide apertures... like f/1.8 or f/1.4 or so.

It normally refers to lenses of a design which provides light rays to strike the sensor at right angles (or close to).

A design used to reduce vignetting.

I dont think a fast aperture is really an issue with ultra wide angle lenses anyway...mostly will be using it on a tripod where I will be wanting a smaller aperture anyway so for me I'd rather go for more focal range and slower aperture...
