f8 challenge

f8 challenge for this week, what does it really mean?
I googled it course but still don't quite know what I should be looking to do?

Any tips?

"f/8 and be there" (Arthur Fellig). Google it .

It's one of the mantra's of photojournalism, together with "Le moment decisif" (Henri Cartier Bresson) and "if your photo's aren't good enough you aren't close enough" (Robert Capa).

Surprise us. Shoot in anything but f/8 - just be there!...

Look at the first photo in this weeks challenge to see what f/8 is mechanically.

Not sure what camera you have?Time to read some small parts of it's manual (or ask how here).

Put it on Aperture Priority. Select f/8 as your aperture. If you're not comfortable with selecting your own ISO, set it to auto on your camera. Go and take some photos. They'll all be at f/8 and the camera will look after the rest.

Just looked at your Black Swan photos and you used Aperture Priority. So there you go. I'll leave my post though, in case it helps some one else.
There is a bit of an explanation by Rick in the first post of the challenge.
f/8 affects DOF. See the second photo in the challenge thread. Steve shows a subject in focus, and she is highlight by the distant BG being not in focus. It gives a sense of place without dominating the photo.
Not sure any of that helps.
