Melbourne Laneway Photography - HELP NEEDED ASAP!

A friend and i are going to venture out in Melbourne tomorrow night (26/08/2011) for a second time because we simply had a blast a few weeks back when we went through Southbank at night and took some fantastic shots. However, this time, we are wanting to explore some of the laneways and streets with some great artwork and archetecture.

So, knowing that alot of my fellow APians would have also had also done this, i am wondering if people can let me know the names and locations of some of the most popular known spots so i have some form of preparation for the night. Also, anyone wishing to join us, we will be kicking off around 530 at flinders st station, you're also welcome to come along... The more the merrier!!

I look forward to some advice
    Daniel Thompson

firstly, I moved your thread. The members photos forums are for critique posting only.

Melbourne has some great lanes, in particular :

Hosier Lane, Rutledge Lane, Caledonian Croft Alley, Duckboard Place and the aptly named ACDC Lane

I will also suggest exploring alot. There is some great little hideaways that are technically old driveways/service lanes that aren't named on any maps. There is some great laneways around richmond and fitzroy area's as well.

Post up your results! If I didnt already have plans I would probably join you.

    Ditto what Rick said.

Degraves St comes to mind, and the lanes that come off of it. But there really are lots of little nooks all over the place.

The Nth/Sth running lanes between Burke St and Flinders have lots of street Cafes that might be of interest too.

There is actually a brochure detailing all the graffiti lanes of Melbourne, you can get it from the info centre at the city square.
    See http://www.onlymelbourne.com.au/melb...ls.php?id=9408 for further details.

Just a thought and a bit off topic if you photograph someone's art work (graffiti) who has the copyright?
    Thanks Steve

That is covered under the copyright laws. If the Graffiti is the sole and main subject of the photo, then the Graffiti artist owns copyright, and you would need their permission to use it commercially. If you photographed models, on a couch, in front of some graffiti, thus making the graffiti incidental to the shot, then the photographer owns copyright, and permission is not required.

Someone may disagree with my interpretation of the Copyright Law, here though!

Just a few from the night. Considering AP was were I got the advice for which lane ways to visit, it is only fair that I share the results with you all. it was a really nice night.

Patiently uploaded via photo bucket for iPad whilst n the train into work, then onto AP. All without frizbying my iPad out the door due to Australia's amazingly fast wireless signals!! Hahaha...

    Hope you enjoyed...

Nice shots! I do prefer the color pics though as it's all that color that make the lanes so visually appealing..looks like a great way to spend an evening - will have to head down there myself when I have some time!
