Mmmm , I'm almost sold on the D700 but my lens choice has changed as I have been reading a lot of great stuff about the 24-70 2.8 .
A touch confused as I would have thought that the 700 would be a natural progression from DX format , but some advice seems to be 300s is as good .
I have to admit to really starting to notice the limits with the D80 and ISO settings ,even at 400 you can see noise in RAW shots

D7000 Goatch man might be the one for you.....and me as well.... I`ve been reading as much as I can find on the net. It is saying that at iso 3200 it`s really good and that would do me. I`m not going for video but will probably use/play with it. It`s cheaper than the 300s and in most ways betters it. Smaller and lighter as well. Can`t wait to see some honest sample pics at higher iso values. I also have debated whether to go to the 700 but then there is the lens issue. I have three lenses that I`d be able to use FF so that`s a start. Decisions, decisions........

    Hey Old Dog
The lens issue your talking about is the DX Lens on an FX format body ? , everything I've read said the D700 adjusts accordingly when it recognises a DX hanging off the front or is this wrong . I was hoping to be able to use my 10-24 DX on the 700

If you are not going full-frame, then the new D7000 would be hard to beat.

The D700 will automatically (if set in the menu to do so) crop the sensor to match a Nikon DX lens when attached.

The result is a 5 and a bit maximum mega pickle image. Not a total disaster by any means but not really utilising the true potential of either body or lens.

It is a very expensive way of getting a low resolution dSLR.
