CC, Image editing OK.
I can see why a few followers of the 20,30,40,50D think they've dumbed it down a bit, but realistically, there is now an extra camera in the whole product line in the 7D that didn't used to be there.
I think some were expecting the 60D to have most of the 7D features. From a marketing persective, that just wouldn't make sense.
Feature wise, they've just put it right in between the 550D and 7D.

No I was not expecting the 60D to have the features of the 7D. I _was_ expecting the 60D to be an improvement on the 50D and in the same class.

It appears that the class you may be refering to (XXD Line) has just been swallowed up by the XXXD line (or vice versa, depending on fence post) and these cameras are now being dangled above gleefull buyers with mouths a drippin'.
The price benchmark of what used to be the "Prosumer" affordability level (XXD range) has now been pinned and tacked on the 7D price range. Any buyer wanting the same old "pro" feel of the XXD series will now have to cough up blood, sweat and tears to buy into the 7D level.

had to happen sooner or later, I guess.......given the 7D is still "newish" i would have expected an the release of a 60D to possibly have been delayed a little longer.
Oh well...

I can see why they've gone down the path they have...
I, personally, didn't see the 50D as much of a step up from the 40D.
If you're serious about your cameras and want to stay with Canon then you have a couple of choices in full frame with the 1Ds and 5DmkII and two in the cropped sensor/sports area in the 1D and 7D, I think that's more than enough choice.
The 60D has dropped back to a more consumer camera than the previous XXD range was, it's got more plasticky over the development.
Consider the XXD started with the 10D and it was a VERY solid camera but there was only the 1D and 1Ds above it, now there's 4 cameras above that line.
