Canons, well 40D and 7D for sure, will take up to 250 volts on the PC sync port, but only 6 volts on the hot shoe

That's interesting - sounds strange though because you would think the pc port connects directly to the other pins on the hotshoe . I know my canon G6 was rated at somewhere around 6 volts but would think the DSLR's would do better ?
