I am looking for the advice or any members that own and use a photography vest, are they worth the money for carrying a small amount of gear?

To me vests make a bit more sense in the film days.
I use a small backpack for specific outings and have a large backpack
for storing and transporting the bulk of my gear. (as you may have seen in Tassie)
I've seen Tannin with his big gear over his shoulder and the rest on belt packs.
Seesee gets his wife to carry for him
Nel helps me but is not a pack mule
Most togs I've seen with vests recently are simply safety vests (green or orange) with 'Photographer' or similar printing on the back.
What are you going to put in the vest pockets... Lenses? Flash? Memory Cards? Spare Battery?

Yes I saw your backpack when we had the meet down here, I only have a small set up (body plus 3 lenses) and normally when I go out I have the body plus lens mounted and I sometimes like to carry a second lens (normally the kit one). I have tried a number of bags (way too many) but nothing has really suited me.
I guess I want it to hold all of this:
Spare battery
Cards
Second lens (kit)
Small towel
Small amount of food (chocolate bar / fruit bar)
Drink bottle
Band aids / first aid kit
Wallet
Iphone
Keys
I have found of late when trying to get down low and in the bush having a bag holds me back and gets in the way, my other thought is to get a small day pack and put everything inside that in some plastic containers.
Paul i have a domke vest, and it would hold all that you list and more.
A good review of the Domke vest HERE

I find cargo pants are great for carrying all of that (except a lens) without the risk of them falling out of pockets.
