thanks Cat, BP and Mary Anne.....I was thinking along the lines of a movie projector as the handle on the top looks like a winder upperer thingy and the white wheel at the bottom would be a flywheel...so you could wind it up and it would run by itself for a while.
I'd be very careful with its electrics.
