SE Qld - Places to Shoot

Share your favourite places to shoot in SE Qld.

Please provide a subject title ie Macro, Birds etc. If these roughly line up with the titles of the Members Photo share areas it will make life easier for members. Remember this information will probably be used by visiting inter state members and even those from overseas. For some subjects ie Landscapes, a sample photo might be a good idea.

To help others not familiar with your favourite place also provide a link to a website if available or a link to a Google Map.

Macro
Most of these places have a wide variety of insect life and flora that constantly changes throughout the year.

Situated between the DPI Research Station and Oxley creek there is an abundance of bird life. A great web site with links to UQ documents on the various Birds and where at Oxley Creek they are found.

Birds:
Brisbane Forest Park, The Gap
You can choose from captive wildlife in the Walkabout Creek Centre, ($5.60 pp)
or talk a free bush walk along the Auricaria Circuit (5km) for wild birds and views across the Enoggera Reservoir.

Nudgee Wetlands, Boondall Wetlands and Tinchi Tamba are all great places to see wetland birds, bee-eaters, Tawny Frogmouths

Flora/macro:
Chermside Hills Reserve in Trouts Road has an abundance of Banksias and Grass Trees.

Don't get me started or I could be here a long time... Basically anywhere in the SE is good for storms.

A few of my favourite haunts would be:

Nudgee Beach
Especially at low tide when you can get out amongst the mangroves, but make sure you dip yourself in Aeroguard first, the mozzies are fierce

Shorncliffe
The pier is certainly very photographic, but don't forget to explore the shoreline around the headland to the south too.

Wellingtoin point
It's on the other side of the creek for me, but often well worth the trip.

Bartleys lookout
Looking southwest over the city makes it a great spot for a city sunrise.

Cityscape:

Brisbane:

Bartleys lookout for me also, great for storms, sunsets and sunrises reflecting on the buildings. Watch the skyline rise from there!

Bicentennial Bikeway, especially the part along and under the Riverside Expressway.

CBD: Anywhere, Queen St Mall, Adelaide St, Eagle St Pier, up Brisbane City Hall...I always find something to take photos of in the CBD.

Pacific Motorway, M1Light trails on overpasses such as the Victoria Bridge, Vulture St, Watland St.

The ValleyI haven't taken many photos yet but I plan too this year.

Gold Coast:

Anywhere along the beach, there is always a good skyline and landscape shot.

Gold Coast Lookouts:

The Spit, George St - Burleigh Heads, Burleigh Heads National Park, Elephant Rock - Currumbin, lookout at the south of Kirra Beach, Giants Causeway - Fingal Heads, Terranora Rd - Terranora, South Nobby - Miami, parklands out the front of GC City Council - Bundall, around Guanaba Rd - Mt Tamborine and there is also St Bernards Pub nearby which has a good view and then Q1 also.

Hi here is an interesting spot which I stumbled upon about 10 days ago....

SPRING BLUFF STATION. (its a Railway station - track is still in regular use) beautifully renovated with a fantastic queenslander cottage/house which is a coffee shop. roughly 1hr 10 mins - 1hr 30 mins from Brisbane Northside (depending heavily on traffic).

While I know it's nowhere near Brisbane, for those adventurous types, Lake Nuga Nuga. It's past Roma and Injune, there are absolutely no facilities there and if you're not good with nature avoid it. But it's fantastic for landscapes, bird and wildlife photography.

There are hundreds of dead trees in the water, and around Easter hols, the water is covered in purple and white water lillies. Lots of whistling kites.

Wow! for someone new to this group and newish to photography this is a great thread and one I will come back to often, thank you for the great ideas, the only ones I can add for the moment are

Landscapes
Springbrook National Park, and anywhere out and around Maleny and Monteville.

Landscape,
On the way to kennalworth (spelling, outside of malaney) there is a dirt track that goes up a hill (mountain) to an old handgliding site, great for wide-angle shots, pana shots etc.
Forest,wildlife,macro
Mt Glorious up at Miala or there abouts, great little cafe that alot of the motorcycle people use (abit exy on the prices though). Just take water and food with you,,, long walk with kids to .
Seascapes,
Sunshine coast up near noosa heads, i think its still called devils lookout, great for sunrise-sunset etc.

One of the best times of year to come out here for this is during the Toowoomba Carnival Of Flowers (this year 17 - 26 September). The gardens are in full bloom as is the rest of Toowoomba's parks, gardens and select private residences.
