advice/opinion please - pentax k7

Hi,

I did a search and couldn't find anything similar (maybe I'm not looking properly ). I have a pentax k7 which I've had for about 5 months. I shoot RAW - DNG actually, as I use Aperture 2 and it doesn't currently support PEF. Recently, I've noticed some faint vertical lines appearing in some of my photos. Yesterday there was one photo that to me, the lines seemed more noticeable particularly on my computer screen. I've posted it below as I don't know whether this is acceptable thing. I hope you'll be able to see what I'm seeing and not think I'm going round the twist . I've done some searching elsewhere too and more often the references refer to green bands.

I just wanted some opinions to see if it's me and that maybe I'm 'pixel peeping' so to speak. The thing is it's annoying to me now, because I have earlier photos that don't have this effect going on. Thanks for any input!

hmm, that's a point, thanks. I should have thought of that. I don't think it is. I might go do that and see if it makes any difference.

thanks Kym, done that now. I did a couple dummy shots just then and the lines are still there. I'll also give it a run tomorrow morning at the lakes where I walk.

I might ring the place I bought it from or even pentax tomorrow to see what they think.

CR Kennedy are pretty good support wise.
Can you post a better example of the lines?

Edit: There was a vertical lines issue in the beta models and a couple of early production batches. I was under the impression none of those made it to Australia - but you never know - CRK will sort it out.

I can find another photo if you like. I did find uploading the jpeg and viewing them on the website made them a smidge less obvious. On my laptop and desktop computer, they are reasonably obvious I think. Some other photos have it too, some a little less obvious, but definitely there.

I ended up taking the camera to the shop I bought it from and showed the sales rep the photo (and some others) on my laptop. He seemed convinced there was something up . There was a suggestion from another rep about a possible problem with the sensor (maybe that's the same as your thought Kym, about the beta models..?). *sigh* so, it's back to CR Kennedy to see what's wrong.

Yes, I have used a different card, thanks for the suggestion. I even put the card in another dSLR and it's working fine.

I'll post again, when I find out but it will be a few weeks away.

I can see those lines in the water, it would be good to find out what it is.
Thanks.

hey Jay, no not as yet. It will be 3 weeks this Thursday (not counting or anything...) and I was told up to 6 weeks. I'm thinking I'll ring if I haven't heard anything by next week.

Update - advice/opinion please - pentax k7

Just an update - got my camera back today my istDs and it's dodgey e-dial was starting to make me crazy plus I'm glad I've got it for my week on holidays.

The sensor had to be replaced in the end. I didn't get a detailed explanation as to what was causing the vertical lines, maybe I'll have to ring CR Kennedy directly to find out more. When I checked in with them 2 weeks ago, they hadn't done a full look over at that time but it was not something they had come across before. So, don't know , maybe just a bit of bad luck (thankfully under warranty! )
